Review of the Genie Bra and Pajama Jeans

When I was a young chick in my 20s, I used to squeeze my sweet little behind into a pair of pants made for a child. Not any more.

Pajama Jeans and Genie Bra: As Seen on TV

Have you ever been tempted to buy one of those products they advertise on TV, like a Genie Bra or Pajama Jeans? For a long time, I was tempted but never made the move. However, I was recently able to buy both of those items in local stores, so I’ll tell you what I think about them.

I have purchased these products myself, and nobody has paid me for my opinion

Genie Bra Is the Least Uncomfortable Bra

I’ve Always Hated Bras

They were the most uncomfortable thing. I was small chested, so could get away without wearing a bra for most of my life. However, the past few years, the girls couldn’t so much stand on their own.

I used to resort to sports bras, but they look terrible under clothes. I got an Ahh bra on eBay for a little less than the TV price, but it was so thin it just didn’t do much for me, and the elastic band around my rib cage was still uncomfortable.

I have to tell you that the Genie Bra is much, much more supportive than the Ahh Bra. It has pockets with thin foam pads that slip in, it looks much more like a regular bra under your clothes. After wearing it every day for a week, this is the least uncomfortable bra I have ever worn, and it has plenty of support for a woman my size.

Bras, Love 'em or Hate 'em

Where Can I Buy a Genie Bra in Stores?

Genie Bras used to only be available through mail order, but not any more. There are several stores that carry them. I got mine at CVS, but I have also seen them at Walgreen's and Rite Aide.

When I saw it on TV, I thought the Genie bra was pretty much the same as the Ahh Bra, and I was put off by the fact that you had to “buy 3 get 3 free” for $59.99 plus shipping and handling. What if I didn’t like it, why would I want 6 of them? The ad says there’s a money back guarantee, but I doubted that I would ever get my money back, and even if I did it would take forever.

Then I spotted two-packs of Genie Bras at CVS Pharmacy for only $19.99. Without hesitation I bought a pack. They only had medium and large. My normal bra size is 34B. I got the large, and I’m glad I did, I wouldn’t want it to be any tighter.

Expensive Bra vs Genie Bra

I liked this video I found on YouTube, but it doesn't look like the Genie Bras she's holding up have the pads in them. The one she has on looks like it does though. I think she looks great, you can't even tell she's not wearing one of those expensive, uncomfortable bras.

Take Out the Pads Before Washing

One problem I have is that the pads tend to slide around in the pockets. I read on the package, after it was too late, that you're supposed to take them out before washing. After I washed them the pads were all bunched up and when I pulled them out the fabric covering came off of the pads.

Actually now they don't slide around nearly as much without the coverings, so maybe that would be a design improvement. Better yet, they could just sew them in, I never wear the bras without the pads.

After several washes the Genie Bras got a little pilled up. I've always just thrown them in with my regular laundry. I bought another two-pack thinking this time I'd treat them more delicately. The second pair of Genie Bras really did hold up a lot better when I took extra care when laundering them.

They Run Small

On the second two-pack, I increased the size to extra large. They are more comfortable; I was afraid they'd be too big, but it's not a problem at all.

I think the Genie Bras were well worth the $19.95, for a two-pack, it's less than $10 per bra. However, as I mentioned before, I have a severe aversion to bras. I will put up with a lot for a little comfort.

I Used to Love Tight Jeans

When I was a young chick in my 20s, I used to squeeze my sweet little behind into a pair of pants made for a child. The tighter the better, that was the style back then.

That's not me anymore. I am no longer willing to suffer in the name of fashion.

I had seen the commercials for Pajama Jeans on TV. They didn't look too bad, and if they were comfortable...

I was interested, but they seemed a little pricey especially for something I couldn't touch before I bought it.

The Tight Jeans I Used to Love

Now Available in Stores

I was shopping at Rite Aide when I spotted, you guessed it, Pajama Jeans. They were $39.95, just like they have been everywhere I had ever seen them. I was still hesitant. They still seemed a little pricey, and they didn't come with the "free" T-shirt in the TV ad, but at least I saved the $7.95 S&H. I figured I have the receipt, if I don’t like them, at least I can take them back to the store.

Now let’s get one thing straight, I would never be caught dead at the grocery store in my pajamas. But when I’m at home I do like to get comfy. It’s not unusual for me to stay in my PJ’s all day if I’m at home on the weekend.

I know people make fun of them, but if someone showed up unexpectedly, I would feel a lot more dressed if I was wearing Pajama Jeans than if I was wearing my regular PJ’s.

Pajama Jeans Spoiled Me for Other Pants

After I had been wearing them about two hours, I thought they felt pretty good, and they looked pretty good. They were maybe not quite as comfortable as PJ’s, and definitely not as good looking as your favorite jeans. They're kind of a funny color, and the top stitching looks a little odd. But I have seen worse looking jeans (in fact I have worn worse looking jeans). Heck I thought I might even wear them to the grocery store.

Two days later I was practically living in my Pajama Jeans they were so soft and comfy. I wore them to the store, and seriously I don't think one person noticed they weren't jeans. Also, I like that the front is smooth, unlike the fly in some jeans. They are very form-fitting, so if you are self-conscious about your body you may not like them, but if you have a nice butt they'll show it off very well. In fact, you have to be careful what kind of underwear you wear because they do show a panty line.

Even my husband likes the way they look, and he is not one to withhold his opinion. Maybe I shouldn't have bought these, they've spoiled me for other pants.

Oh, one other thing, they only come in one length. They were too long for me. I'm only 5'1" and it's not at all unusual for me to have to shorten my pants if I can't find the ones I want in petite.

What I Would Change About Pajama Jeans

The one thing I really don't like is the hot pink drawstring. If it is left hanging out, it really stands out. Something more like the color of the pants would be better.

I actually would prefer a flat elastic waist to the drawstring. They are easier to pull up and down, and more comfortable, and no chance of the string hanging out. The last couple of pairs I have bought, I replaced the drawstring with a wide, flat elastic. I like them better that way. I realize that most people wouldn't be willing to do that.

Pajama Jeans Get Better With Age

After they've been washed a few times they look more like real denim than they did at first. That funny color fades out and they look more like blue jeans. I think most people with a low opinion of Pajama Jeans have never put a pair on. Maybe the marketing was a bad idea, calling them Pajama Jeans. They're really just comfortable pants, more like yoga pants, not pajamas. That's what I think, but then I am a comfort junkie.

I usually wear my Pajama Jeans when I would wear jeans, except if I'm doing something like working in the yard. Since they are a knit fabric, they are not very tough. If I'm working in the yard I wear regular jeans to keep from damaging my old stand bys.

I don't wear them very much in the summer, when it's hot. I like to wear leggings under them when it's really cold. The pajama jeans are a blessing when you're sitting for an extended length of time, like on a long car trip, or on an airplane for that matter.

They Still Fit after Weight Loss

When I got my Pajama Jeans I weighed about 138 pounds. At that time my mediums fit pretty snugly, but after wearing them for an hour or so they would stretch out a little and they did not feel too tight.

I have lost some weight, I'm down to 120. They are less form fitting now, but they hold their shape well and do not look saggy or baggy. I think these pants are a good option for someone in a weight transition.

Because of the drawstring at the waist they are adjustable and you will not have to keep buying new jeans as your size changes.

New Styles and Colors!

I still have both of my original pairs of pajama jeans, and I still wear them regularly. They have held up very well considering that they are over two years old, and I have worn them a lot. Still, I was feeling like I wanted some new ones.

Now that I'm sure how they fit and everything, I thought I might as well look into ordering them online. When I first got them, they were only available in the denim blue color, in boot cut.

When I checked out the official PajamaJean website, I saw that they are now offered in black, red, green and purple. They also have a Cranberry Brocade and an Indigo Brocade pattern. All colors come in boot cut and also in Skinny Jean style.

They are continuously adding more colors and styles. They have shorts, skirts, capris and maternity pants too.

The original denim and the black are only $39.99, the other colors are $49.99. I ended up ordering one pair of black boot cut, and one of black skinny. I had a coupon for free shipping that popped up on an ad after I had visited the website, so that made me feel good about ordering online.

It took about two weeks to receive my new pants. As before, they were a couple of inches too long for me, but I'm used to having to hem my pants. I'm happy with the way they look. I'm not used to wearing skinny jeans, I'd like it better if they offered just a straight leg, but these are not too tight on my calves, and I have muscular calves. It's nice to have another option besides the boot cut.

Look for Them in Stores

If you want to try Genie Bra or Pajama Jeans, and you have any doubts, I would definitely suggest that you look around in drug stores like Rite Aide and CVS that have the "as seen on TV" sections. That way it's so much easier to take them back if they don't live up to your expectations. I do love mail order though, as long as I know exactly what I want, and if the price is right, why not save gas, and the aggravation of shopping, and have it delivered to my door?

I just looked at Amazon, they have quite a variety there. If you don't find what you want, you can always go to pajamajeans.com

I can't find Pajama Jeans any more. These are so comfortable. Please help me find them in different colors in a large

Sherry Hewins (author) from Sierra Foothills, CA on January 09, 2015:

Genie Jeans? Are you talking about Genie Bra or Pajama Jeans?

I have heard of complaints about the Genie Bra taking a long time, they are easily available in stores now, so I would not bother ordering from the TV.

I have never heard of a problem with Pajama Jeans orders, I have ordered them online myself, and always received them quickly. You can buy them in stores now too though.

Sorry to hear you've had a problem.

I placed a tv order for the genie jeans. Have been waiting for 3 weeks! Called their bogus customer service number...only to get static! Beware of the scam!!!!

Sherry Hewins (author) from Sierra Foothills, CA on December 12, 2012:

Hi toxicmommy, I too have read bad things about the Genie Bra, that's why I was happy to find one at a store so returning it would be easy. Also I only had to buy two, so it cheaper to try it. One bad thing I heard was that it took a long time to receive the product after ordering. I think a lot of people prejudge both of these products without trying them. Products sold on TV infomercials are easy to make fun of and classify as silly "trailer trash" products, but once in a while you find a winner. Thanks for reading and commenting on my hub.

Thank you so much for the reviews! I've been wanting to try both of these items! I heard so many bad things about the genie bra I might have to try it but I'm worried the sizing will be difficult

Sherry Hewins (author) from Sierra Foothills, CA on November 13, 2012:

Victoria Lynn, Thanks so much for visiting! It's so nice to have a bra that doesn't drive me crazy all day. Try the pajama jeans, they are stretchy and comfy.

Victoria Lynn from Arkansas, USA on November 13, 2012:

Awesome. I came over after reading your comment on my Genie bra review hub. Funny about the sizes. I got medium since I wear medium shirts, and they're fine. It makes me think that large might even be more comfy--looser! I will never use the pads. I'm a 36C and never wanted to be larger. I felt very self-conscious when I first put them on with the pads. I'm glad we can wear them with or without.

Love this hub! I have my Genie bras and now am on the hunt for pajama jeans! I don't like tight, but it sounds like the fabric "gives"?? :-)

Sherry Hewins (author) from Sierra Foothills, CA on August 08, 2012:

Thanks moonlake. When I got my second pair of Genie bras I got them in extra large (my original larges seemed just a little tight and I normally only wear a 34B bra). I actually find them much more comfortable, so keep in mind that you may want to buy them a little bigger than your usual size.

moonlake from America on August 08, 2012:

I always wanted to know about the two items in your hub. Now I know.

I hate wearing a bra around the house but if someone stops over I'm running to get my bra on or I always keep a zip-up sweatshirt over my shirt than if anyone comes I can zip up fast. Lately it's been just to hot for the sweatshirt. I wonder if I could stand to wear the genie bra and it would be comfortable around the house.

Voted up on your hub.

Thanks so much for commenting Sunshine 625. Google seems to love this hub, but it's got very little attention from hubbers. It's all 100% straight from the heart true. I'm not wearing the pajama jeans much now because it's 90°+ around here right now.

Sherry Hewins (author) from Sierra Foothills, CA on April 04, 2012:

I came back to freshen up this hub and noticed I'd never replied to these comments, even though I have followed both of you ladies and read many of your hubs. I really appreciated both of your comments.

I love my genie bras. They are the best that I have ever worn.

Angela Blair from Central Texas on January 04, 2012:

Well, I've been checking out the Pajama Jeans and so far haven't been able to convince myself to pay the price -- BUT -- might just give in after reading your report on how comfortable they are plus being able to run to the grocery, etc. in them. Thanks for the good info -- Best, Sis
