Pumpkin Pie Spice

Pumpkin spice, also known as pumpkin pie spice, is one of those spices that instantly transforms many popular and traditional dishes. From a Starbucks latte favorite to a traditional pumpkin pie recipe, this flavor is extremely popular.

It is strongly associated with the American Thanksgiving celebration, held on the fourth Thursday of November each year. You may be excused if you presumed this spice named after the pumpkin was made from pumpkin (which I originally thought), but alas, it is not.

Instead this warm spice is a blend of different spices which may be bought already blended or may be made from scratch, tailored to your own personal preference.

There are tons of recipes using homemade pumpkin spice which combine all or some of the following: cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, mace, ginger, and cloves.

Every home cook will have their own preferred blend of pumpkin spice for their tasty pumpkin treats, so why not use it in a lush homemade lip gloss or lip balm that you will enjoy and benefit from all year round!

Luscious Spicy Lips

Because pumpkin and pumpkin spice are so popular, I decided to look at using it in a homemade lip balm or lip gloss recipe. The beauty with making your own recipes is that a little goes a long way, especially for a gloss or lip balm. You can make quite a few containers, keeping you well stocked or leaving you with extra to give as gifts.

Using all natural ingredients, it brings you your much loved flavor all year round in a moisturizing, soothing lip product. In order to have moist lush lips, it is important to exfoliate the lips weekly. This will prevent dead skin cells accumulating and remove any dry rough patches on the lips.

Suzie, I made it to the parade, but didn't have a good enough spot to actually take photos. I enjoyed it a lot, though. It went on for hours! But I started writing about my experience befrehand, and have a few related photos, so if I can find some more material, I may still do a little (late) St Patrick's Day hub! Thanks for asking.

Was thinking about you Sunday, did you go the St Patrick's Day parade in Boston with camera?? Thanks for leaving me such an upbeat comment! Delighted i hit a good note with pumpkin spice lippy!! I thought if Pumpkin is so popular and seasonal it would be great to have it in a lip balm etc . . .all year! I couldn't believe how popular Starbucks pumpkin spice latte is in America! When I was living in New Zealand it was my first introduction to eating pumpkin and I LOVED it, particularly done roasted in the oven and in soup. Enjoy making this and having a latte or 3!! Cheers so much for all your votes and shares!:-)

Suzanne Ridgeway (author) from Dublin, Ireland on March 19, 2013:

Love it, love it, love it!!!! Did you know that anything pumpkin is my favorite? I also enjoy lip gloss and balms of any kind, and the thought of having it smell like pumpkin makes me wicked happy! As a bonus, the recipe video for Pumpkin Spice Latte sends me above the clouds! I buy pumpkin coffee every year, and being able to whip up a coffeehouse beverage like that sounds very good!

You made my day! Voted up and almost everything else, plus sharing it!!!

Bill Holland from Olympia, WA on March 19, 2013:

I'm going to bite my tongue and not allow my wit to take over here. Bev doesn't wear makeup, but I will pass this along to her daughter.

Hoping all is well with you and the Mickster. Have a great rest of the week.
