How to Make a Makeup Kit

When you first begin to learn how to do makeup for beginners, you’re going to be bombarded with products. There are so many different types of eyeliner, eyeshadow, and even lipstick that it can be hard to figure out what to buy. Not to mention trying to figure out whether you need bronzer or highlighter! Take a deep breath. This comprehensive makeup for a beginner kit list will help you have the ideal beginner’s makeup kit with all of the essentials.

Three Tips to Build the Perfect Makeup Kit for Beginners

Building your makeup kit is not going to happen overnight. As you explore the world of makeup, you’ll discover new products that you love and want to add. You’ll also wind up tossing a few products that simply do not meet your standards. It’s important not to rush out and buy everything on a list. Instead, keep these tips in mind to create the perfect makeup kit for you.

Pick What Type of Products You Need

There’s no point in picking up mascara or an eyelash curler if your eyelashes are so full that you won’t use them. However, if you love playing with lipstick and want to learn to do lipstick art, consider picking up more than two tubes of lipstick. One important thing for every beginner to remember is that there are no rules to makeup. You can do, or not do, whatever you like.

Start With the Basics

Likewise, you want to make sure that you get at least the basics of makeup products. You won’t jump into doing a full face of makeup overnight. Since you’ll start doing your makeup with the basics, it’s only important that you get the basics for makeup.

Learn a Little Bit at a Time

One of the biggest mistakes that beginners make is when they want to jump right into the world of makeup and learn everything they possibly can. Watching hours of YouTube videos about how to do makeup or product reviews for makeup products will make you feel burnt out. There is so much information out there it would take months to learn it all, even if you studied every day. Because of that, you need to take your time. Check out different videos and websites for makeup tips for beginners. Focus on one thing at a time, such as your eyebrows. You’ll be doing a full face of makeup before you know it!

What to Include in Your Makeup Kit

This is a comprehensive list for every beginner that includes the basics you will need for a full face of makeup. Keep in mind your individual preferences instead of simply buying everything on the list. For example, if you’re not a fan of foundation, do not buy it thinking you’ll use it later. Instead, wait until you’re ready to use foundation to pick some up.

Makeup Brushes and Tools

In order to apply makeup for a beginner properly, you need to have the right tools for the job. Pick up a makeup brush set with various makeup brushes to ensure that you have everything you need.

Other tools you will want to consider include:

A makeup mirror (a magnifying makeup mirror is a must if you have poor eyesight)

Beauty blender

Eyelash curler

Eyebrow spoolie

You can use a brush instead of a beauty blender, but beauty blenders are easier to use, so you should pick one up if you plan on using foundation.

Face Primer

Primer is applied after your moisturizer but before your foundation. You can use strobe cream as a primer, too. Dr. Brandt Pores No More Luminizing Primer is a wonderful product for beginners. It works well for all skin types. This primer helps minimize the appearance of pores. It also can be worn by itself for a smoother complexion! You can find it on Amazon, Sephora, or by doing a quick Google search.

Finding the right foundation can be tricky but is necessary.
Photo by Edz Norton on Unsplash

Foundation and Concealer

Your skin shades will change over time, so it is recommended that you have various shades of foundation and concealer in your makeup kit for beginners.

Start off with a shade of foundation that matches your skin tone now. Your foundation should match your jawline, not your neck or chest.

Your concealer should be two shades lighter than your foundation. However, if you use concealer to cover pimples, pick up a shade that is two shades darker to cover the darker spots.

If this is your first time buying a foundation and you are feeling a bit lost, head to your local Sephora or Ulta. The customer service experts will be happy to help you find a foundation that matches your skin tone perfectly!

Eyebrow Pencil and Gel

There are a lot of eyebrow products out there. The easiest to use is an eyebrow pencil. Use this to fill in sparse areas, and then set the look with an eyebrow gel.

Black Eyeliner

Black eyeliner is always a great go-to option. Pick up an Urban Decay 24/7 glide on pencil (available at Sephora) for a seamless look that is easy for beginners. After you get the hang of how to wear eyeliner for beginners, you can try out the other eyeliner options on the market.

Find a mascara that works for you!
Photo by Annie Spratt on Unsplash

Mascara

Thrive mascara is a great vegan option that you can find at Sephora! It goes on evenly, rarely clumps, and is perfect for your eyelashes regardless of how thin or thick they are. If you’re not a fan of this mascara, you still need one black mascara in your makeup kit. This is another one of the must-have makeup products that you don’t want to leave out of your kit.

Lip Color

Lip color is one of the easiest things to apply, so which makeup products you use depends on your personal preference. Pick up a lip gloss for a glossy shine. Lipsticks are always great. (A nude lipstick is always on my vanity.) Browse through makeup products to find a lip color that you love, and go with that. Make sure that you buy at least one classic color that you can wear with anything, such as a pink or nude shade.

Blush, Highlighter, and Bronzer

These are optional, but they’re awesome to have some fun with, even if you’re just learning how to do makeup for beginners. TheBalm has a small compact that includes one of each, so you won’t go broke just to find out that you purchased several products you don’t like.

Eyelid Primer

Before applying eyeshadow, you need to prime your lids just like you do your face. Because of that, make sure that you pick up a great eyelid primer, like Urban Decay or Stuck On You.

Look how amazing this palette is.

Eyeshadow Palette

If you’re just getting started out with makeup, you don’t need several different eyeshadow palettes. One eyeshadow palette with several neutral shades is essential, though. Make sure that your palette has at least ten different colors to give you plenty of options.

Setting Products

Setting products are makeup products that help keep your makeup in place. Some people prefer to use a setting powder. These are wonderful for anyone with an oily skin type of T zone. If you don’t have oily skin, you’ll be fine with a setting spray like Urban Decay All Nighter. Setting sprays are easy for a beginner to use.

Makeup Remover

If you make a mistake, and you’re bound to make a few as a beginner, you’ll need to be able to wipe it off. Even if your makeup is flawless after your first try, you still need to be able to wash it all off at the end of the night. Make sure that you pick up some makeup remover wipes. These won’t substitute properly cleansing your face, but they are a lot better than sleeping in makeup. They are essential for cleaning up mistakes, too.

The ultimate beauty showdown! Which is better?

Are Beauty Blenders Worth It?

The debate between whether you should use a beauty blender compared to a brush remains a constant controversy. Some beauty experts swear that a brush is essential, while others claim that a beauty blender is in your best interest for certain products.

Whichever product you choose to use to apply makeup is ultimately up to you. There are a few great things, and some not-so-great things, about both products. Learning about the pros and cons of a beauty blender, how to use a beauty blender, and what products you should be using a blender for can help you decide whether they are right for you.

Look how beautiful this blender is!
Photo by Nicola Styles on Unsplash

Pros and Cons of Using a Beauty Blender

There are some great things about using a beauty blender. They’re more convenient for a variety of reasons. However, there are a few downsides that you’ll need to keep in mind before stocking up on your favorite beauty blender.

Pros

Beauty Blenders Don’t Leave Streaks

When applying a liquid foundation with a brush, you’re going to have to deal with streaks. Then, you’ll have to blend in the streaks for a natural look. That isn’t the case when using a beauty blender for application. Instead, you’ll find that it instantly gives you a streak-free finish.

Beauty Sponges Give a Natural Appearance to Makeup

Beauty blenders tend to absorb more product than brushes do. Because of that, they give you a more natural finish as they evenly deposit products all over your skin.

It’s Easier to Fill Your Pores

When you apply makeup, especially face makeup like foundation, you’re jamming the product into your pores. To do this with a brush, you have to essentially stab yourself with the makeup brush to get it down into the pores. Not only is this time-consuming, but it can also get uncomfortable. Beauty blenders naturally push products into the skin as you apply pressure to the sponge to blend, and they aren’t uncomfortable.

They Feel Better on Sensitive Skin

Beauty sponges are nice and soft. While some brushes are designed to be soft, they still don’t compare to the smooth texture of a sponge. If you have sensitive skin, especially around your eyes, using a brush can be uncomfortable.

You Only Need One

When it comes to brushes, you’ll need quite a few of them to complete your makeup routine. If you’re using a beauty blender, you only need one. You can use it for contouring, foundation, concealer, and everything else in your routine if you would like to.

Are sponges really better than brushes?

Cons

Sponges Result in You Using More Product

Because makeup sponges absorb more product to distribute it on your skin properly, you’ll find that you use more products when you use them. At the same time, a lot of that product stays on the blender and never makes it onto your skin. When you’re spending close to $50 per bottle of foundation, that isn’t ideal.

They are Harder to Get Clean

Your favorite makeup brush will look new again after you disinfect it. That does not happen when you use a beauty blender. In fact, these are much harder to get clean. If you use them for darker makeup, such as eye makeup, they can be permanently stained. Typically, they’ll never look new again.

Wet Sponges Breed Bacteria

To properly use a beauty blender, you’re supposed to use a damp one to blend products onto the face. This results in a flawless look, but that damp sponge can be a breeding ground for nasty bacteria that can cause acne. It’s gross when you put a lot of thought into it.

You Have to Replace Them More

A good set of makeup brushes that are taken care of can last for years. A beauty sponge is doing great if it lasts for a few months. Even if it lasts until then, you’ll still need to replace them due to bacteria. You wind up spending more money for the little bit of convenience that a beauty blender offers in the long run.

Sponges are Not Very Durable

Sponges will slowly begin to flake and chip over time. After a cleaning session, it’s always iffy as to whether you’ll have a chip in your beauty blender. This means that you need a backup or three just in case it chips in an inconvenient spot.

Which Is Better?

Beauty blenders are more affordable than brushes, but that convenience comes at a cost. You do wind up paying more by replacing them, disinfecting them, and by having to spend more money on makeup products.

They can also grow mold and bacteria if not properly taken care of.

However, they provide an amazing finish for your foundation and feel so much better than a makeup brush when blending.

5 Common Questions About Beauty Blenders

1. Are beauty blenders bad for your skin?

If they are not cleaned after every use, a dirty beauty sponge can slowly collect dead skin cells and harmful bacteria. This bacteria can also get into your makeup, resulting in it finding its way into your pores. Then, it will cause blemishes and breakouts.

2. Can a dirty beauty blender cause acne?

Yes, it can. A beauty blender should be properly cleaned and disinfected after every use. This is because they are the perfect breeding ground for bacteria, which can then make their way onto your face. That’s how a beauty blender can cause acne.

3. How long do beauty blenders last?

Beauty blenders need to be replaced every three months due to bacteria and dead skin cells. They typically last 4-5 months before chipping or cracking. Cheaper beauty sponges are known to last 1-2 months before starting to break.

4. Do beauty blenders get moldy?

Yes, they do. However, this won’t happen if they are cleaned and disinfected after every use. After cleaning a beauty blender, you need to make sure that it is in an open-air space to dry properly. Avoid putting sponges in a dark place, such as your makeup bag. That will encourage mold growth.

5. Do you wash beauty blenders after every use?

Yes! Every time you use a beauty blender, it collects dead skin cells and bacteria. This can grow and cause acne if your beauty blender isn’t cleaned properly.
Is this palette worth the hype and money?

Lovecraft Beauty: Warm Rituals Eyeshadow Palette Review

Lovecraft Beauty is a company with a great concept. They stand for Love+Craft+Beauty.

Their motto is to love yourself, love your craft and love your beauty. They aim to create makeup that helps every person express themselves and their individuality.

With a belief like that, it’s understandable why everyone has tried this makeup at least once. However, there are quite a few things about their eyeshadow palettes that you need to keep in mind before you pay almost $30 for one eyeshadow palette.

Lovecraft Beauty Warm Rituals Eyeshadow Palette Swatches

The colors are warm tones of cream, brown, orange, and green. The three brown shades are matte formulas. The others are shimmery, especially the orange. A unique combination of fall colors makes this eyeshadow perfect for those with brown eyes!

Warm Rituals Pros Vs. Cons

On the surface, this eyeshadow palette looks like a dream come true. I have hazel eyes, and these shades were the perfect colors. Lovecraft Beauty was designed by a professional makeup artist, so you instantly assume that it’s going to live up to your expectations. However, there were a few areas where it fell short.

Pros

No Smudging or Creasing

While the look seems to fade away as the day goes on, it’s not going to look bad. The eyeshadow does not crease in the center of your eyelid. It also won’t smudge across your face due to the humidity that summer brings. If you can figure out a way to make it stay all day, this eyeshadow can become one of your favorite products.

Cruelty-Free

This company advertises that they do not test their products on animals. When you pick up one of these eyeshadow palettes for brown eyes, you know that you’re not contributing to animals being used to make sure that makeup products are safe.

Great for One Color Looks

While this eyeshadow is horrible at blending, that doesn’t matter if you only wear one color of eyeshadow. You can create a look by swiping a chocolatey brown across your eyelid with some eyeliner and be done for the morning! That makes this a great beginner eyeshadow palette.

Cons

The Shades Are Not Very Pigmented

While the eyeshadow colors look exceptional in the palette, they are not highly pigmented once you put them on. This works well for people that might want a more neutral look with shades of brown. However, it’s not going to be your favorite palette if you prefer to add a pop of color to your eyelids, as most of us do.

Poor Staying Power

I’ve tried to wear this eyeshadow three ways. First, I just wore the eyeshadow. It didn’t last all day. Unfortunately, I got similar results when using primer and my Urban Decay setting spray. To enjoy a look all day, you’ll need to reapply it during your lunch hour.

This eyeshadow also wipes off relatively easily with water. Wearing this formula in the rain, during high humidity, or any time aside from cooler Fall weather is not a good idea.

Doesn’t Blend Well

When trying to pull off the perfect smokey eye, you’re going to run into problems when using this formula. The colors muddy together to form almost a new shade instead of blending smoothly together for a seamless eyeshadow look. Overall, that was very disappointing.

Matte Formula Is Powdery

The matte formula used is a bit powdery. It doesn’t go on as smoothly as the shimmer or glitter formulas do. In the picture above of Lovecraft Beauty Warm Rituals swatches, you can see that the matte formulas have chunks of powder. This is also how it goes on your eyelids. This can be a problem, especially if you prefer cream eyeshadows.

The Price

Paying almost $30 for an eyeshadow palette with six colors that do not stay, and do not blend well, is not going to happen for me. I simply can not justify spending that much on this product from Lovecraft cosmetics when Morphe is a fraction of the price and blends beautifully. (Morphe palettes cost approximately the same but include so many colors that you get a fantastic deal every time.)

Who Is Lovecraft Beauty Warm Rituals Eyeshadow Palette For?

While this isn’t my favorite palette, there are a few people that it will work well for. If you’re interested in trying it out, keep these things in mind before adding it to your cart.

Does Not Look Well With Faces That Have Red Undertones

If you have red undertones, even if they are mild, the shimmer colors can leave you looking more like a clown, thanks to your rosy cheeks. In order to make this eyeshadow palette work, you will need to cover the red undertones with foundation before applying.

Makeup Artists Will Be Frustrated

Blending eyeshadow to create an amazing look is one of the fun things about being a makeup artist. You can create unique looks and make someone’s day with eyes that pop. Because this eyeshadow doesn’t blend well, it’s not a great tool to have.

Beginners Will Love It

Using this eyeshadow palette instantly reminds me of the way that I put on eyeshadow as a beginner. In the beginning, I used only one color. Blending was a foreign concept to me. If you know anyone just beginning to wear makeup, they’ll appreciate the Lovecraft Beauty Warm Rituals eyeshadow palette.

Worth It?

The Lovecraft Beauty Warm Rituals eyeshadow palette has beautiful colors that work well with brown or hazel eyes.

The formula leaves a bit to be desired, though. You simply cannot pull off a lot of eyeshadow looks with it.

However, if you’re a fan of using a single color of eyeshadow, this could easily be the palette for you.

View the original article to see embedded media.

This content reflects the personal opinions of the author.

Victoria Beckham Future Lash ($28)

Victoria Beckham Future Lash vegan mascara is hands-down one of the best smudge-proof mascaras that I’ve tried so far. It definitely lived up to my expectations, although there are a couple of downsides that you’ll need to keep in mind before picking up a tube for yourself.

Victoria Beckham has brought the wonderful things that we all adore about luxury makeup brands into the world of vegan, clean beauty. There are so many positive things about this cruelty-free mascara that it was hard not to instantly try it when I got it in my Ipsy bag.

Pros

Vegan Mascara

After realizing that I have a gluten intolerance, I was unwillingly thrown into the world of gluten-free foods. This has quickly transpired into a profound interest in vegan things, including vegan mascara. Animals that are raised so that we can use them for products, including cosmetics, contribute damage to the Earth at a faster rate than humans via water consumption, etc., so it’s nice to know that this product is vegan.

Cruelty-Free Mascara

When a product is advertised as cruelty-free, it means that it is not tested on animals. Although all makeup products aren’t cruelty-free, it’s great knowing that this product from Victoria Beckham is. If you’re on the hunt for cruelty-free mascara, this one is worth looking into.

Smudge-Proof Mascara

This product advertises that it’s smudge-proof, and it definitely is! I wore it for an entire day, and it stayed perfectly in place. It dries quickly, so you don’t have to worry about smudging because it’s still wet when applying other makeup around your eye.

The Applicator Makes Application Easy and Mess-Free

While applicators with large, thick bristles have dominated the mascara industry for decades, smaller brushes like this one definitely have their benefits. Because the bristles are small, it doesn’t load too much product on the brush. You won’t have to worry about accidentally getting mascara on your upper or lower lid during application. Applying this cruelty-free mascara is as simple as pulling the applicator out of the tube and brushing it along your eyelashes.

Looks Natural

The perfect application wand combined with a smooth, non-clumping formula can help you have lashes that look naturally darker. Because the formula does not have a thick coating, you don’t have to worry about lashes sticking together or looking fake. They aren’t so crunchy that you’ll spend the day fearing they are going to break in half, either. Instead, you get slightly darker, fluttering eyelashes with one swipe of this vegan mascara.

Cons

Not Waterproof

While there are plenty of vegan mascara brands on the market with waterproof mascara, this is not one of them. While it will survive in a slight drizzle, this isn’t a mascara to wear during a downpour or day at the beach.

Those of you that are looking for a vegan mascara that is also waterproof should check out:

Eyeko Beach Waterproof Mascara (available at Ulta)

Thrive Causemetics (available on their website)

KUSH Waterproof Mascara by Milk Makeup (available at Sephora)

These are all exceptional brands that offer vegan mascara. The above products will survive a day at the beach, too!

Although this can be a huge downside to this cruelty-free mascara during the day, it’s a blessing when it is time to remove the mascara. You can easily wipe your eyelashes with water, and trust that it comes right off.

Look how amazing that applicator is!

Should You Buy It?

Yes! I love the mascara minus the fact that it’s not waterproof. It’s easy to apply, simple to remove, and gives you a naturally flawless look that won’t smudge until you’re ready to wipe it away. The price for the mascara is affordable and well worth it for a vegan mascara like this one.

About the Company

Those who have not heard of Victoria Beckham might recognize her as Posh Spice. Beckham was branded as the most stylish member of the girl group Spice Girls in the 90’s. Long after songs like “Wannabe” and “Who Do You Think You Are” stopped blaring on the radio, Beckham took her career a step further by launching her own clothing line. She joined the cosmetics industry in 2019 with a company, Victoria Beckham Beauty, that managed to set itself away from the rest of the industry with a few features that fans have come to love.

Women Empowerment

While Beckham had collaborations with previous companies, such as Estee Lauder, this is her first makeup company and brand. She is the co-founder. Victoria Beckham Beauty was founded by both Beckham and Sarah Creal. They loved the idea of makeup that is created by women.

Clean Beauty

The cosmetics industry, and several other industries, continue to include ingredients in their products that are known to be harmful to humans and/or animals. For example, soda brands that have flame retardant in them. The high levels of arsenic and metals that were once found in baby foods. Cosmetics are not the exception.

Clean beauty products are free from these toxic ingredients. When we apply cosmetics to our face, our skin absorbs the ingredients through our pores. The fact that Victoria Beckham offers clean beauty products is one more thing that we love about them.

Vegan and Cruelty-Free

Although the company tends to focus more on having clean beauty products and being environmentally friendly, it’s definitely worth noting that most of the products are also vegan and cruelty-free. Even some of the waterproof products are!

Transparency

The company claims that they are transparent. You can see on each product description whether it is vegan and cruelty-free. Granted, no one is going to inform the public that they are testing products on animals. However, it’s worth noting that they include plenty of information in the product description to form your own opinion.

She has beautiful packaging too.

Victoria Beckham Beauty Prices

Future Lash Mascara is one of the most affordable products on the website. Other products are also seemingly affordable, such as the waterproof vegan eyeliner that you can pick up for under $30. However, before you fall in love with this brand, it’s worth noting that they get more expensive as you continue browsing. A matte bronzer brisk will cost you over $50, and lipsticks are almost $40. A single-pot eyeshadow is going to be closer to that $40 range as well. I love the brand and this mascara, but I’m not going to fill my vanity with it. Instead, I’ll enjoy a product on occasion. (I could get an entire palette from Tarte for less than what a single pot eyeshadow costs at Victoria Beckham Beauty.)

Where Can You Buy Victoria Beckham Beauty?

This line of beauty products, including skincare, can be found on the website www.VictoriaBeckhamBeauty.com. You can also find this line of products at your local Sephora, if they haven’t sold out already Bloomingdale’s and Estee Lauder carry them as well.

This content is accurate and true to the best of the author’s knowledge and is not meant to substitute for formal and individualized advice from a qualified professional.

© 2021 Amber Lynn

Comments

Sp Greaney from Ireland on May 14, 2021:

Thanks for sharing this review.

About Face by Halsey

The About Face makeup line by Halsey was anticipated across the world. This singer is known for doing her own makeup looks for concerts. She even completed all of her own makeup looks using the About Face line for the launch videos and pictures! Halsey takes the definition of creativity to new heights, and her makeup brand did not disappoint.

Review of the About Face Eye Paint

The About Face eye paint is available as Matte Fluid Eye Paint. It’s only available in a matte finish. Each tube of eye paint is $24. According to the website, it’s a one swipe finish, thanks to the applicator. It’s also smudge-free, so you don’t have to worry about your makeup being a mess later on.

Pros

There are quite a few benefits to using About Face Eye Paint that make it well worth the price tag. The pros are:

Smudge-free

Dries quickly

Dries smooth

Very pigmented

A complete look in one eyeshadow

It doesn’t require a primer or setting spray to stay in place

Easy to remove

Cons

This eye paint comes with some serious benefits, but it also comes with a few downfalls.

Is not waterproof

The applicator can make getting a smooth line on your eyelid difficult

Limited eyeshadow looks

This eyeshadow can handle rough days. It can stand up to babies poking your eyelid because they are curious. It was designed with staying in place in mind.

Great for Minimalists Too

About Face is marketed as a great makeup for being creative, but that doesn’t mean that you have to be creative with five different eye paint colors. Instead, it can work for the minimalist, too. A quick swipe is all it takes for a complete eyeshadow look.

Not only is this ideal for the makeup minimalist, but it is also an exceptional product for those busy mornings. Full glam makeup looks are always hot, but eye paint will get you out the door in under a minute while still looking fabulous.

Easy to Remove at the End of the Day

To remove About Face Eye Paint, you simply wipe it off. It might take a couple of wipes with a makeup remover, but it comes off as effortlessly as it glides on. My Ipsy Face Cleansing wipes took this makeup off, and they don’t have the power to remove anything waterproof. That means that you could also use a damp rag with water.

About Face Eye Paint is Not Ideal for the Beach

While this eye paint can hold its own if you have to go somewhere in the rain, it’s not going to survive a day at the beach. Swimming is out of the question. Not only is swimming out of the question, but long walks in the rain are also not going to happen when you’re wearing this eye paint. Make sure that you keep your plans for the day and the weather in mind before putting it on.

Those that are looking for a waterproof eyeshadow can switch out their About Face Eye Paint for something else for the day. Tom Ford Emotionproof Eye Color is seriously pigmented so that you can wear a single eyeshadow color for a complete look just like About Face, but it’s going to stay in place when it's exposed to more than a little bit of water.

Opt for Powder or Cream Eyeshadow for More Looks

The one major downside that you’re going to notice about this eye paint is that it is not blendable. It dries so fast that completing an entire smokey eye is impossible. Aside from a quick eyeshadow topper or graphic eyeliner looks, you’re just too limited with eye paint.

Make sure to scrape the excess off the brush by sliding it along the opening of the tube as you take it out.

How to Apply About Face Eye Paint

When applying this eye paint, it’s important to remember that the brush is not like any other eyeshadow brush. Because of this, it holds onto too much product after initially taking it out of the tube. Make sure to scrape the excess off the brush by sliding it along the opening of the tube as you take it out.

After that, simply slide the brush along your eyelids. If you are a beginner, use a concealer brush before the product sets for a crisp, smooth eyeshadow line.

Use a Concealer Brush For a Crisp Line

The lip gloss style applicator that comes with the eye paint is great for making sure that you have plenty of product on the brush. It lets you paint your entire eye, or parts of your face, in one swift swipe. However, if you’re going for a basic eyeshadow look, you want it to look nice. Before the eyeshadow dries, use a small concealer brush to smooth out the rough line at the top of your eyelid.

About the Brand

About Face breaks the rules when it comes to makeup. Instead of focusing on perfection that the makeup industry bombards us with, the focus for this makeup is on the fun. After all, that’s why we all began playing with makeup when we were younger, right?

This is seen in the lack of precision tools designed for perfection that shoppers have become accustomed to and in the beautiful, bold colors. Halsey strongly feels that makeup helps you look cool; it’s never about being flawless. We are all imperfectly gorgeous.

No Sexism

The Halsey makeup line isn’t just for women. Instead, it’s for everyone that loves makeup! The website doesn’t use pronouns to describe their makeup as other brands do. Pictures on the website display every gender! About Face nailed being inclusive with their makeup line.

Great for Different Skin Colors

About Face doesn’t display just one skin tone on their page. Instead, you’ll notice a nice variety to show you that this makeup is designed for you, regardless of whether you have light skin or dark skin.

Vegan and Cruelty-Free

Halsey boasts that her products are both vegan and cruelty-free. This is something that she stated before the launch, according to this article. More and more makeup is trending towards vegan being the future of beauty, and About Face is right on time to help you transform what used to be a trend into a lifestyle.

Affordable

When compared to other name brands of make-up, About Face is one of the more affordable brands. The complete line ranges in price from $14 to $32.

Where Can I Buy About Face Eye Paint?

You'll find the entire collection for sale on the About Face website here. (Please keep in mind that this is not an affiliate link. That means that I don't make a single cent if you choose to click the link and purchase something from the website. This is an honest review, and I won't make anything from you purchasing the makeup.)

About Face makeup is being sold directly to the consumer via the website.

Aside from the website, you can find About Face makeup sporadically in your Ipsy Bag! (That's where I got mine.)

In Conclusion

About Face Eye Paint will instantly remind you of stage makeup. The colors are bold and heavily pigmented. It lasts all day long, no matter how active you are. The primary downside is that it’s not as blendable. This isn’t going to work for a person that loves doing a smokey eye every day.

This content is accurate and true to the best of the author’s knowledge and is not meant to substitute for formal and individualized advice from a qualified professional.

© 2021 Amber Lynn

Comments

Sp Greaney from Ireland on May 07, 2021:

I didn't even know that she released a makeup line.

Il Makiage Brow Shaper and Filler

Il Makiage is known for being unapologetically extra. They pride themselves on selling makeup that is for the maximalist instead of the minimalist. This makeup company has made a splash in the cosmetics industry that leaves customers wondering if their products are worth it. Their brow products are some of their most popular products, including their eyebrow mascara.

About Il Makiage Fill and Fix Brow Shaper

This eyebrow mascara is supposed to be an effortless way to achieve a dramatic look. You simply swipe the spoolie brush across your eyebrows for an instantly better brow.

You can pick up Il Makiage Fill and Fix Brow Shaper in a color to match your eyebrows for a more natural look, too.

Colors available include:

Latte

Caramel

Cocoa

Truffles

Espresso

This product can be used to create tiny hairs for a more natural look if you use small strokes with the brush. The colors blend perfectly with your natural color!

Advantages of Il Makiage Fill and Fix Brow Shaper

There are a lot of good things about this product. When you wear it, it feels like you’re not wearing a single thing. Because you don’t have to use an eyebrow gel to hold it in place, it really is a one-step eyebrow look. The colors blend with natural colors even better than I thought they would! You can’t create one hair at a time, but you can definitely add some eyebrow hairs in sparse areas where you need them. The formula dries quickly, and it does last quite a while.

Disadvantages of Il Makiage Fill and Fix Brow Shaper

This was the ideal eyebrow mascara except for one thing: it clumped horribly. You can see the clumping on the original picture. As soon as I used it, there were clumps in my eyebrows, as you can see in the picture below.

I did try to smooth the clumps out, hoping that I could make this product work because of all of the pros of Il Makiage Fill and Fix Brow Shaper, but it just wasn’t possible. I wiggled the brush during application. I didn’t pump the brush in and out of the tube. There wasn’t too much product. (I thought that might be the case, so I made sure to wipe the brush to eliminate the excess product.) After double-checking the date I received it, I observed that it was not expired.

According to other reviews, this seems to be a chance you’ll instantly take when ordering the product. Some users claim it’s the perfect product to get natural, amazing brows. Others agree that it clumps as soon as you use it.

What Is a Brow Shaper and Filler?

A brow shaper and filler is exactly what it sounds like. These products help to give your eyebrows the shape that you want, and the look that you are trying to achieve. This can include giving them a fine point at the end or filling sparse areas. Certain products are designed to accomplish different things. What product you choose can also depend on your skill level.

Types of Brow Shapers and Fillers

A quick walk down any drugstore aisle will instantly reveal quite a few different types of brow shapers and fillers. You’ll find everything from pencils to products that look like markers, pomades, and more. Picking the perfect product for your eyebrows will instantly make filling in your eyebrows easier.

Mascara like Liquid Shaper and Filler (Also Called Brow Mascara)

Brow mascara is exactly what it sounds like. It is a mascara designed for your eyebrows. These come in a tube and are applied with a small spoolie brush, just as mascara is. The spoolie is smaller so that it’s the perfect size for your eyebrows.

This product has similar application features to mascara. It goes on wet, takes time to dry, and then can stay in place all day long. Brow mascara typically stays in place longer than other products, like brow powder, so you don’t always need to use a brow gel to keep your look locked in all day long.

Eyebrow mascaras are not ideal for beginners, though. They do take a little bit of practice. Because they are applied with a spoolie, it can be hard to draw in just a few hairs, and they aren’t ideal for outlining the eyebrows, either.

Pencil Brow Shaper and Fillers

Eyebrow pencils are similar to eyeliner pencils. They come in a variety of formulas, from your basic eyebrow pencil to a gel like formula. Pencils are perfect for drawing individual hairs to fill in sparse areas. They can be used to draw a defining outline of the eyebrows for a wow look that looks perfect for selfies. Filling in the eyebrows with a pencil will result in a more natural look than when you use eyebrow mascara.

These are great for beginners! They’re simple to use, and wipe off easily if you make mistakes. There are several different formulas available so you can find the one that works for you.

The major downside to using an eyebrow pencil instead of other products is that they don’t have a lot of staying power. These don’t always last all day. You’re going to need an eyebrow gel or wax to make your look last.

Brow Powder

Brow powder is another great product for beginners. You apply it along your eyebrows with an angled brush, and it helps fill in sparse areas. It doesn’t look as natural as drawing fine hairs with an eyebrow pencil, but it still looks more natural than brow mascara. Brow powder is similar to pressed eyeshadow in both application and staying power. This product also requires brow gel or wax to last all day.

Brow Pomade

Brow pomade is similar to a creamy, gel like eyeshadow single. These products usually have deeper colors, making them perfect for a bolder look. The gel like formula is applied using an angled brush to fill in sparse areas. It’s great for beginners! Thanks to the unique formula, a pomade will stay in place longer than a powder. Some of these might require an eyebrow gel. Whether or not you need one depends on the product and the brand.

In Conclusion

I really wanted to love this product. Aside from the clumping, it’s the definition of perfection. You can use it heavily and make it obvious that you’re behind the dramatic eyebrow look or lightly for a natural look. It blends wonderfully with natural eyebrows. However, if it clumps you simply can’t use it. I wouldn’t recommend it.

How to Apply Eyebrow Mascara

This content reflects the personal opinions of the author.

Makeup Palette Organization

If you’re trying to determine the perfect way to organize your palettes, you need to keep in mind that those makeup organization tips are going to be different than tips to organize eyeshadow singles. This is because palettes are larger. They don’t conveniently fit in a lot of makeup organizers. If you have more than a few eyeshadow palettes, you need makeup organization techniques that can handle that many palettes.

Ditch the Makeup Drawer

Makeup drawers are classic. They have a certain amount of elegance to them that instantly makes them appealing. Drawers can also be locked, making them even more appealing if you have small children.

Drawers are also known for being crammed full of things. You’ll wind up with stacks of palettes, and will still find yourself having to hunt for what you want every morning. Instead, you can put your palettes on top, and save the makeup drawer for things like brushes that you don’t want to get dusty.

Consider Your Space Available

Makeup organization is going to look different for everyone. Someone that is organizing vanity space might not have as much room to work with. On the other hand, if you have a larger vanity, organizing vanity space might mean that you have ample room to work with. If you have the top of a dresser, you have more than enough room for makeup organization. Before you think about how to organize eyeshadow palettes, take a good look at where they will be in your room.

Look at Alternative Options if You’re Out of Room

One of the biggest problems that I used to have was simply having space to work with. I’ve installed eight feet of glass shelving to create my own vanity across one wall of my room. Before this, I found that I was constantly looking for other storage options.

Thankfully, there are plenty of options available if you seem to be out of space. You can store makeup on your wall. Vertical make-up organization options are another great idea! Those of you that are out of vanity or dresser space need to look at what other space you have available. Is there floor space next to your vanity that you can use for makeup palette organization? Do you have wall space available for vertical storage options?

Organizing Vanity Space for Makeup Storage

Organizing vanity space is the easiest way to organize your makeup palettes. There are plenty of cheap palette organizers on the market. Personally, I use this acrylic one. It has enough slots to hold palettes, and I have enough space on my vanity for a few of them.

Vertical Palette Storage

If you don’t have a lot of space left on your vanity, consider picking up an organizer that lets you store them vertically. This takes up less space, and you can store your palettes so that you can see all of them. As soon as you can see all of your makeup, you’ll discover that it’s a lot easier to find.

Use a Dishdrainer to Organize Makeup Palettes

A wire dish drainer does the exact same thing that the acrylic palette organizer above does but at a fraction of the cost. Most dollar stores sell them for a few dollars. You can simply place your palettes in between the wires like you would if you were putting plates in a dish drainer.

I think that this idea looks better when you use a wire dish drainer without the silverware cup at the end. However, you can use any dish drainer for this idea on how to store makeup palettes.

Pick Up a Desk Organizer

Desk organizers are designed to hold letters and pens. The spaces that are designed for letters are the perfect size for makeup palettes! The areas that are supposed to be used for office supplies like pens are usually the ideal size for makeup brushes.

Whether this idea works depends on how many palettes you have. If you have over 15 palettes, a desk organizer is not going to meet your storage needs. You’ll need so many of them it’s a bit unrealistic. However, if you have a smaller makeup collection, this is a great idea. Desk organizers come with more colors and options than makeup organizers do, which is a huge bonus!

Utilizing Floor Space To Store Palettes

When you’re out of room on your vanity, organizing vanity space isn’t going to matter. If you have a spot available on the floor next to your vanity, there are a few different options that you can use to make that work.

Organize Palettes in Wire Baskets on Shelves

Small wire baskets are the perfect storage option for palettes! They are small enough that you can sit all of your palettes on the side to guarantee that you can see them all.

Then, you’ll need something to put those wire baskets on. This will depend on how many palettes you need to organize. If you have more than a few wire baskets, consider bookshelves. Another great idea is to use a cube styled organizer. These are stylish, and you’ll have more room in case your collection grows.

Pick Up a Wire CD Organizer

CD organizers come in two styles. There are plastic organizers and wire organizers. The problem with plastic CD organizers is that they usually have a tiny slot that the CD fits in perfectly. Your palettes won’t all fit in that slot.

Wire organizers, on the other hand, don’t have sides. Instead, they have a slot that you simply slide the CD in, but if you want to slide something of a different length (like makeup palettes) in that same slot, it will fit just fine. Those little slots are a perfect size!

Large products that are designed to sit on the floor are called CD towers. You can sit one of these right beside your vanity, and you suddenly have room to store at least twenty palettes.

Use a Dresser

A single makeup drawer is bound to get messy, but using a dresser for only your palettes and properly organizing it can turn out wonderfully.

Before you buy a dresser, decide whether you will lay all of your palettes flat inside the drawers or use organizers inside the drawers to sit them on their end. This will determine what size drawers you need.

Then, you will need to decide how many drawers you need. There are smaller dressers that have three drawers. You could opt for a vertical dresser with ten small drawers too. Keep in mind how much floor space you have, how you will store your palettes in the dresser, and this idea has the potential to give you the perfect makeup organization that you’re looking for!

How to Store Makeup Palettes on a Wall

Personally, I’m not a fan of storing my makeup palettes on the wall. However, I have considered the idea when I was out of room on my vanity and there just wasn’t enough floor space for the ideas mentioned above. There are some great ideas that can make your room look fashionable and help you store your palettes.

Glass Bathroom Shelves

I use this idea to store my lotions and body sprays among a few other things. These glass shelves are sturdy, and they have a rail in the front so you can stand all of your palettes on end without them falling off. They’re also pretty easy to put up. (I originally considered this idea for palettes I don’t use as much, but decided to keep those on the vanity.) For this picture, I moved all of my lotions off of one shelf and put a few of my palettes on it to give you an idea of what it will look like.

Use Bookshelves for the Wall

Anything that is designed to hold small books will work perfectly for palettes. You can opt for angled shelves so all of your palettes will sit perfectly on the shelf. More modern shelves have a lip on the front of them to guarantee that nothing falls off, too. You can’t really go wrong with this idea.

Make Your Palettes Stick to the Wall

I’ve never tried this idea, but it’s a really cool, crafty idea that I almost did at my old house. How you do this depends on just how crafty you want to get.

For a simple, barely DIY idea, you can purchase magnetic makeup boards on Amazon. Then, you simply glue magnetics to the back of your palettes or anything else that you would like to stick to the board.

For a more customized look, you can pick up a simple bulletin board and some flimsy magnetic sheets. Cut the magnetic sheets to fit the bulletin board, and then glue them into place. Finally, cover the board with contact paper or wallpaper. After that, you just need to hang it on the wall and attach magnets to the back of your makeup!

In Conclusion

It doesn’t matter how impressive your makeup collection is if you can’t find what you need. That’s why makeup organization is so important. You should be able to easily find your go-to foundation in the morning, your concealer that is a little bit darker than the rest to hide a pimple at the absolute last minute, or anything else that you need. These makeup organization ideas will make sure that you can do just that.

This content is accurate and true to the best of the author’s knowledge and is not meant to substitute for formal and individualized advice from a qualified professional.

© 2021 Amber Lynn

Ipsy Refreshments Review

Are Ipsy Refreshments worth it?

Ipsy is known for delivering high-quality, brand-name make-up and beauty products to your doorstep. Their subscription boxes and the benefits of being an Ipsy subscriber remain unrivaled. This same company also has its own line of personal care products called Refreshments.

Ipsy Refreshments

Ipsy Refreshments are personal care products, such as shaving cream, lotion, and body wash, that are delivered with the same convenience that subscribers get from their Ipsy box.

They are advertised to be environmentally friendly. The back of the bottles confirms that all of the bottles used are recyclable. Not only can you recycle them after you’re done, but they are also partially made of recycled plastic. This varies depending on the product. For example, the back of the deodorant states that it is comprised of 40% recycled materials while the lotion packaging claims it is only made of 30% recycled materials.

All products are vegan and cruelty-free. They pride themselves on not testing their products on animals. Every product is also carefully designed to be great for sensitive skin. Even the deodorant is wonderful if you have sensitive skin!

How Does the Subscription Work?

In order to subscribe, you need to be an Ipsy subscriber. You can subscribe to the Glam bag for $10 a month or the Glam Bag Plus for $25 a month. This is necessary because your Refreshments products will be delivered with the rest of your Ipsy products.

One of the things that I love about the brand's product line is that you control the products that you get monthly. You can update your subscription preferences by the end of the month to either stop receiving a certain product or receive one that you don’t usually get. For example, I updated my subscription to get one of everything so that I could try all of the products offered. Then, I updated it again to make sure that I only receive the ones that I’m going to keep using.

Ipsy Refreshments Products

Ipsy has a nice line-up of products to meet your basic personal care needs. There are cleansing face wipes, razors, and more. Every product features the same soothing design, and they come in nice, pastel colors so they will all coordinate perfectly sitting on a shelf in your bathroom.

Cleansing Face Wipes ($8)

These come in a package with a flip top just like other cleansing wipes do. You get a total of 30 wipes per package. There are quite a few great things about these wipes and a few areas that were a huge disappointment.

Pros

Moisturizing

Biodegradable

Vegan

They smell nice

The convenient flip top package

Very gentle on the skin (so gentle that I used them with confidence on a baby when I ran out of baby wipes.)

Cons

They aren’t the best at removing make-up. All they did was smear my waterproof eyeliner. I had to scrub to get them to remove the rest of it, which left my skin red and irritated. They did almost nothing when I tested them on lip paint on my arm to see how they would do.

The Verdict

These are great for cleansing, especially if you have dry skin. However, you’re going to need another product to remove make-up. Refreshments cleansing wipes will take off a basic layer of eyeshadow, but they are nothing up against makeup that is designed to stay in play for 16 hours.

Luscious Hand Cream ($7)

This luscious hand cream is made in the United States and is available in a citrus scent. The scent isn’t so strong that the entire room will smell your hand cream, but it’s strong enough that your hands, and anywhere else you apply the lotion, will smell delicious.

Pros

Small bottle that is the ideal size for your handbag

A thick formula that is perfect for dry skin (it’s the same consistency as Bath and Body Works body cream)

Does not leave a greasy residue

Cons

The small bottle does not last long. A little bit of this lotion does not go a long way.

Only available in a citrus scent

The Verdict

For the price, you could get a much larger bottle of lotion elsewhere. However, this lotion does keep your hands moisturized longer than cheap bottles of lotion you’ll find in local department stores. For hand cream, it’s great to have, especially during the winter months. Don’t depend on it for more than that, though. The small bottle is not going to last as a body cream.

Luxe 5-Blade Razor Kit (Free) and Razor Cartridge Refills ($5 Per Pack of Two)

When you first subscribe, you get a starter kit. The razor kit is included in this at no cost to you. In each razor kit, there is the razor handle, a razor holder that is designed to suction to the shower, and two razor cartridge refills. After this initial delivery, you can subscribe to receive razor refills monthly.

Pros

The moisturizing strip leaves your legs silky smooth

A very close shave thanks to the five blades

It’s really convenient to always have razor refills. Those are the one thing I always seem to run out of.

Cons

The razor holder won’t stick to my shower

The moisturizing strip on each razor works a little too well. Every time I use a new one, I get a thin, greasy film on my leg that I have to wash off. This only happens on the first shave, though.

The Verdict

These are more than worth it. The razor comes at no cost to you, so you can always try it to see if you like it. The cartridges are more affordable than most razors on the market today, and they provide a closer shave.

Before using this razor, I swore by men’s razors. Women’s razors just don’t seem to shave as well. If they do, I have to shave again the next day. This razor gives me the same close shave that I want, is great for my dry skin, and I love the colors.

Pearly Body Wash ($11)

The body wash comes in a large, 10 oz. bottle. Olive oil and shea butter are just a couple of the star ingredients you’ll discover, which means that it is moisturizing. There are quite a few great things about this body wash.

Pros

It is moisturizing. Your skin will feel nice and soft after using this body wash.

A little goes a long way. I could see this bottle lasting an entire month.

Nice lather

Cons

If you have really dry skin like I do, it doesn’t moisturize it enough. I still have to use lotion after using this body wash.

Only available in citrus

The Verdict

Personally, I don’t think it’s worth it. I can get the same thing in a scent that I love from any other store. It is moisturizing, but so are a lot of other products on the market, and they’re more moisturizing than this one. I just don’t see myself spending $11 on a body wash in a scent that I’m not a fan of if the product itself doesn’t blow me away, and this one did not.

Pillowy Shave Cream ($8)

This moisturizing shave cream comes in a lotion bottle, which is extremely convenient. It’s impossible to accidentally squirt out too much shaving cream. The bottle is the same size as most hand creams at 4.5 ounces. You’ll notice that the same extra moisturizing theme you’re seeing in all of the refreshments products is found in the Pillowy Shave Cream as well.

Pros

When using the Pillow Shave Cream with the brand's razor, your legs are going to feel like satin.

The type of bottle that it comes in is a major pro

Doesn’t have a strong scent

Cons

It’s a small bottle. If I were to use this every time I shaved, it would not last an entire month.

For something that doesn’t last that long, the price is a little high

Not a good lather

The Verdict

I hate the price on this one, but the results are so amazing that I think it’s worth it. I’m not going to order three bottles a month year-round, but I am definitely going to use this throughout the summer.

Velvety Body Cream ($12)

This large bottle of body lotion comes in a citrus scent. It features the same soothing design and offers the same awesome moisturizing properties. The grape seed oil provides rich antioxidants while shea butter helps combat dry skin for a smooth, non-greasy feel. According to advertisements, this lotion is supposed to hydrate your skin for 24 hours after application.

Pros

Not greasy

Moisturizing

Has olive oil

Decent price for the size

A little goes a long way

Cons

Whether or not it moisturizes your skin for a full day depends on the type of skin you have. If you have really dry skin, it’s not going to last the entire day. My skin was itchy again after a few hours.

Limited scents available

Verdict

Personally, I don’t see myself spending $12 on this lotion because it doesn’t meet my needs. However, if you love environmentally friendly skin products and don’t need a thick body cream for your dry skin, this could be an awesome product for you.

Breezy Deodorant

This deodorant is free of aluminum, baking soda, parabens, phthalates, and sulfates. You’ll notice the same pastel colors used as with the rest of the brand's packaging. It comes in a standard 2 oz. size that most other deodorants do.

Pros

It lasts all day

Available in 3 scents and an unscented version

Glides on clear

Doesn’t clump throughout the day

A pleasant scent that isn’t too strong

Anti-bacterial properties

Cons

Price

This is a deodorant, not an antiperspirant

According to the website, it can take a few weeks for your body to eliminate the aluminum build-up if you have been using products that contain aluminum, which can result in some serious BO. I have yet to experience this, but it’s only been a few days since I started using the product.

The Verdict

Although I’m not a huge fan of the price (you can buy six Suave deodorants for this price), I think this product is worth it. It goes on clear and genuinely lasts all day. There are no deodorant stains on my clothing, either.

The main thing that I do not like is that this product isn’t an antiperspirant. That means that it’s not going to prevent sweating. Some people have tried this and decided that it’s not for them because it doesn’t keep you dry. Whether or not that will matter depends on how heavily you sweat. Just in case this becomes a problem during hotter times of the year, I’m going to keep some of my other deodorants for those days.

Final Thoughts

I think the convenience that this offers is great. It’s awesome that I can pick what I get so I don’t wind up with a ton of products that I don’t use. The fact that these products are recyclable, vegan, cruelty-free and most of them are made in the United States definitely adds to the appeal.

On the downside, I’m not a huge fan of the citrus scent that every product comes in. I also don’t like that you have to be an Ipsy subscriber in order to enjoy the Refreshments line. I have so much makeup I was going to put my box on hold, so I’m going to have to order enough of my refreshments products to get me through that period. It would be much better if the two were separate.

I’m still going to order some deodorant, cartridge refills, and shave cream on occasion. The rest of the products either don’t fit my needs or I have another product that I prefer. However, when you’re deciding if Ipsy Refreshments is for you, it’s important that you consider your own needs and do what’s best for you! I don’t care for the citrus scent, but if you love citrus you’re going to be in heaven!

This content is accurate and true to the best of the author’s knowledge and is not meant to substitute for formal and individualized advice from a qualified professional.

© 2021 Amber Lynn

How to Take Care of Dry, Frizzy Hair

If you're wondering how to maintain dry or frizzy hair, you've come to the right place.

Growing up, I always had healthy hair. I take steps to prevent damage because I use heat to style my hair and think it’s fun to dye my hair. There is also a hair maintenance routine that I use to make sure that my hair stays healthy. It’s still far from dry or frizzy, though.

Then, along came my third little one. Her hair type is the definition of both dry and frizzy. Without proper hair care, it’s a mess that can only be tamed by putting it in a bun. It took quite a while, and a lot of trial and error, but I have finally developed a complete system for caring for her hair to make it look beautiful, and keep it moisturized.

Ditch The Cheap Shampoos

We went from baby shampoo to Pantene and other brands. Then, while at Family Dollar, my little one spotted Frozen shampoo. She was dying for it. It was only a dollar. Without thinking, I bought it for her. Within one day her hair looked more damaged than mine had in my life. I was mortified.

We have never used cheap shampoo on her hair again. Instead, it’s only wonderful brands. Thankfully, we’ve never had this problem again. She was equally mortified and understands why we don’t use Frozen shampoo anymore.

Use Leave In Conditioner Daily

When you are dealing with dry, damaged, or frizzy hair you’re going to need to constantly moisturize the hair. Leave in conditioner is the best product for that. We use Aussie Leave In Conditioner. I’ve had a hard time finding it in the stores lately, but you can still order it off of Amazon. We use this every day. (It also worked wonders for my older daughter’s hair when it was severely damaged.)

View the original article to see embedded media.

Consider Using Hair Oil

Leave in conditioner isn’t for everyone. I love Aussie because it doesn’t make anyone’s hair feel or look greasy. However, there have been times when it wasn’t an option.

During those times, I used Brazilian hair oil. Not only are hair oils and serums great for damaged hair, but they also provide moisture that dry hair desperately needs. When used in small amounts, you can enjoy all of the benefits of hair oil without your hair looking oily.

Always Use Conditioner After Shampoo

When hair is damaged, it has been stripped of the protective outer layer that helps keep moisture locked in. Conditioner coats the hair so that it can act as a protective layer for your hair. It does the same thing for dry hair!

Do A Weekly Hair Mask

Hair masks are quite as popular as other products, but they should be. Depending on the hair mask, these are wonderful for your hair.

There are two different types of hair masks on the market. One works like leave in conditioner. You put it in your hair every morning, just like you would other products. The other type of hair mask is used once a week. These hair masks are applied to the hair just like shampoo. Then, you wait until you are supposed to wash it out (it will tell you on the bottle) and wash your hair. Some hair masks recommend rinsing with only water. Others say that you should use shampoo. It’s important to read the directions to make sure that you use them correctly.

Avoid Damaging Your Hair When Possible

My littlest adores having her hair blow-dried after the shower. Unfortunately, that only happens on a rare occasion. We try to avoid any type of heat to prevent further damage to her hair. You’ll also want to avoid:

Any styling that involves heat when possible

Overwashing your hair

Extremely hot water

Cheap styling products

This isn’t going to make your hair less frizzy, but preventing damage will help you guarantee that it doesn’t get worse.

Develop A Hair Care Routine

A hair care routine will look different for each person. If your hair requires that extra coating that conditioner provides, it could include washing your hair with conditioner every night but only using shampoo every other day. A hair mask is a great idea to include in your hair care routine.

We have a morning hair care routine that involves moisturizing via leave in conditioner, brushing, and styling. After I brush her hair, I run my fingers through it to make sure that it’s properly moisturized.

Our nightly hair care routine consists of washing and conditioning. No heat is used. When I dry her hair, I never rub the towel all over her head. Instead, I gently move the towel in a motion from her scalp to the end of her hair squeezing as I go. This helps dry her hair without tangling it.

As you can see, I moisturize her hair at least twice a day. If something happens where she does not take a nightly bath, I use leave in conditioner or hair oil at night. Not only does this moisturize her hair, but it also helps prevent tangles!

In Conclusion

If you’re wondering how to take care of dry hair, remember that the key is to keep it moisturized. While I love Aussie leave in conditioner, hair oil might be better for your hair. Try them both. Consider what works best for your hair, and develop a personal hair care routine to keep your hair silky smooth.

This content is accurate and true to the best of the author’s knowledge and is not meant to substitute for formal and individualized advice from a qualified professional.

© 2021 Amber Lynn

Comments

Iqra from East County on April 26, 2021:

I am very thankful to you Angel because these tips are very useful for my dry hairs, I must follow these tips.

Why I Chopped My Waist-Length Hair

For years, I had hair that was gorgeous and long. My long locks were perfectly even with my waistline.

Then came the damage. I used an amazing curling iron daily. The results were beautiful, but the damage took its toll. Soon, those long locks began to break off mere inches away from my scalp.

I instantly quit styling my hair, but it was too late. The breakage continued no matter what I did. Six months later, the large chunks of broken hair had grown down to my chin. The remaining strands were stringy and the opposite of beautiful.

It was tough, but I decided to cut all of my hair in a short, bob-style haircut that was up to my chin. It was the shortest my hair has ever been, but it wasn’t that bad. There were so many great things about having short hair! On the other hand, there were a few downsides too. You’ll need to consider both the pros and cons of short hairstyles before chopping off your hair.

Advantages of Having a Short Haircut

When you opt to get a short haircut, you’re opting for one of the most low-maintenance hairstyles there is. There are quite a few great things about rocking a short haircut that you might not be aware of.

1. You’ll Spend Less Time in the Shower

The amount of time that we spend in the shower is unreal some days. Shaving everything feels like a marathon! Washing waist-length hair is quite a task too. Once you have short hair, you’ll instantly notice how much quicker your showers are.

2. Short Hair Has More Volume

I have naturally thick hair. When it’s long, it instantly appears thinner than it is due to the weight of my hair. The longer your hair is, the more weight there is that is preventing your hair from having a natural bounce. Once you have short hair, you instantly have more volume.

3. Less Shedding

One thing that everyone in my house seemed to appreciate was that I was no longer shedding. We used to find hairs everywhere. There was even one in the baby’s diaper once! I had no clue how they made it everywhere in the house. Shedding was never an issue when I had short hair.

4. Fewer Tangles

Long hair gets tangled all day long. The longer your hair is, the longer it takes to brush. Short hair, on the other hand, is easy to run a brush through in the morning. It instantly looks better as the day goes on instead of worse and takes minutes off your morning routine.

5. Little Kids Don’t Pull Your Hair as Often

Another great thing I noticed about having short hair was that it removed the temptation for my grandson to pull my hair. He barely seemed to notice that it was there! Now that it’s growing out again, he’s become fascinated with it once again. The length seems to really matter when it comes to small children.

6. Short Haircuts Are Easier to Style and Dye

Long hair is more difficult to manage. Short haircuts, by nature, are instantly easier to style. This is because you have less hair to work with. You’ll notice the same thing when you dye your hair. It doesn’t take as long, and it’s a lot cheaper!

7. Short Hair Looks More Stylish

Everyone seems to have long hair, but unless it’s styled daily, it looks the same on everyone. Short hair can make you stand out, which instantly makes you look chic and trendy. You don’t have to do anything to your short hair to get this effect.

8. It Feels Like Freedom

There’s something about cutting all of your hair off that is liberating. It instantly makes you feel free and fabulous. It’s as if cutting all the weight off of your hair is the emotional equivalent to cutting the dead weight out of your life.

9. Your Hair Will Instantly Frame Your Face

Keep in mind that this does not apply to short, Pixie hair cuts. (Three inches of hair will not frame your face.) If your hair is chin-length, it will instantly frame your face in the most adorable ways! You won’t have to style your hair or use certain tools to pull off that look, either.

10. It’s More Cost-Effective

Short hair is cheaper than long hair. Stylists won’t charge you as much for a trim or dye job. You don’t use as much shampoo or conditioner. If you use other styling products, such as leave-in conditioner, you will automatically use less of those as well. In the long run, this can save you a lot of money.

Disadvantages of Having a Short Haircut

Short haircuts are packed with advantages. From saving money to looking great, you can trust that there’s a short hairstyle for you. However, there are a few disadvantages that you’ll want to keep in mind before taking the plunge and chopping your hair off.

1. Limited Styling Options

I love to style my hair. Curling it and trying out new hairstyles is always my idea of a fun afternoon. That wasn’t an option with my chin-length hair. In fact, there were almost no hairstyles for short hair that I was in love with.

However, if you don’t care to style your hair, this might actually be a good thing! Styling options are so limited that you don’t have to be bothered by doing your hair.

2. Monthly Trims Are Necessary

If you want to keep your short hair, you’ll need to head to the salon every month for a trim. If you don’t, it’s going to grow back out quickly.

3. You Might Have to Style It Every Day

Styling isn’t necessary if you have chin-length hair. However, there are certain short haircuts that will require daily maintenance. For example, a pixie haircut always looks better when it’s properly styled.

4. You Can’t Pull It Into a Ponytail

There are certain days when you just need to pull your hair up in a ponytail. If you didn’t have time to wash it, and it can’t handle any more dry shampoo, a ponytail is your best friend. The same applies to bedhead, bad hair days, or any situation when your hair is not looking its best.

5. It’s Harder to Look Feminine

You can pull off a feminine look with short hair. However, I think it’s a lot harder when your hair is short. The shorter your hair is, the harder it is.

6. Short Hair Doesn’t Work With Every Face Shape

Long hair is great regardless of your face shape. Short hair is the opposite. If you have a round face with chubby cheeks, it can make your face look fat.

7. People Are Really Judgemental

Unfortunately, no matter what you do, people are going to judge you. Once you have short hair, people tend to judge you more. They think that you’re edgy and don’t listen to anyone.

I don’t think that you should make decisions based on what other people think. You should always be your own version of beautiful. However, I do think you should keep that in mind and be mentally prepared for it before cutting your hair.

8. Depending on Your Haircut, There Might Be an Ugly Grow-Out Phase

We all remember when having hair that was long in the front and a mere one inch in the back was the most popular hairstyle. The one bad thing about that hairstyle was growing it back out. The back of the hair wound up being just long tufts of hair that you simply could not style. Wearing a hat was your only option to cover it up.

Other haircuts, like a Pixie haircut, can land you in the same position. It typically happens when you’re in the middle of growing it out.

If you’re concerned about what your hair will look like when growing it back out, consider a bob hair cut. These don’t have an ugly phase.

9. Short Hair Is Colder

You never realize how much your hair helps you keep warm until you don’t have it anymore. Make sure that you pick up a hat and a scarf for the cold weather!

10. The Lack of Options Can Get Boring

For me, this was one of the biggest downfalls to having short hair and still is. You don’t have the same styling options that you do with longer hair. If you enjoy having different looks, it won’t take long for you to get bored with your hair.

In Conclusion

Short hair isn’t for everyone, but there are some people that love it. I’m not a huge fan of it on me, but I think some people look so much better with short hair. Make whatever decision you think is best for you. Remember that it’s okay if you hate it. Hair always grows back!

© 2021 Amber Lynn

Comments

Iqra from East County on April 26, 2021:

I love this article, yes short hair is not for everyone, but there are some people that love it.

Going from a medium-brown shade to platinum blonde hair was an unforgettable experience. I became a master of DIY hair care, including learning how to maintain platinum blonde hair.

Stylists are not lying when they say that this is a high-maintenance color. There are quite a few things that you’ll need to incorporate into your hair care routine, and you’ll need to put in some extra effort for your hair.

How to Care for Damaged, Bleached Hair

All bleached hair winds up being damaged. It took so many bleaching sessions to transform my hair from a brown to a white-blond that it was destined to be damaged. You’ll need to take special care to make sure that you don’t accidentally do further damage. If you don’t, your hair can wind up dead, and it’s impossible to recover from that.

Avoid Using Heat on Your Hair

Heat can damage your hair. If it’s already damaged, bleached hair, using any type of heat will make the damage worse. You should avoid using a hairdryer, curling iron, flat iron, etc. Eliminate heat treatments from your hair care routine if you can. Wash your hair in lukewarm water instead of hot.

If You Have to Use Heat, Purchase Heat Protectant Spray

For some events and hair types, you’re going to have to use heat. It seems like it’s simply unavoidable. In those situations, you want to use a good heat protectant spray. Heat protectant spray provides a protective layer over your hair so that you can get the look you want without the damage. I used Tresemme Heat Protectant Spray with wonderful results.

Only Wash Your Hair 2–3 Times Per Week

Washing your hair can be harsh for your hair. It strips your hair of the natural oils that it needs. Instead, implement a new routine that involves washing your hair the least amount possible. If you have naturally greasy hair, pick up some dry shampoo.

Focus on Repairing Your Hair

Once your hair is damaged, you need to change your focus to repairing your hair. There are a lot of products that you can use. Some people swear by oils and serums, while others are devoted to more natural remedies like coconut oil.

Personally, I used a leave-in conditioner every day. These are essential for adding moisture to your hair. If your hair is damaged, it’s more than likely too dry too.

Repairing damaged hair means that you should not be using cheap shampoo. If you can’t find an affordable brand for your hair type at a salon, consider other brands like Pantene, Whole Blends, or Aussie. These are all great for damaged hair, but they’re more affordable than professional products.

Always Use Conditioner

Conditioner is damaged hair’s best friend. Once your hair is damaged, it doesn’t have the protective outer layer anymore. The conditioner helps to restore that outer layer. It can coat your hair to provide additional protection until your hair is repaired, too.

Use Purple Shampoo Once per Week

If you recently finished dying your hair white blonde, you might not have noticed the brassy or yellow tones showing through yet. It can take a couple of weeks before you start to notice a yellow hue to your currently white hair. The purple shampoo has violet hues to counteract both orange, brassy tones, and yellow tones. If you use it once per week, you’ll never have to deal with your white hair slowly turning yellow or orange.

Prepare to Head to the Salon Every Few Weeks

If you’re dying your own hair, you’ll want a stockpile of bleach to maintain your hair. Those that prefer to leave it to the professionals will need to plan to head to the salon every 3–4 weeks. It doesn’t take long for your dark roots to start growing back in, and they grow a lot faster than you realize.

Avoid Excessive Sun Exposure

The sun gives off a lot more heat than styling tools do. Too much sun exposure can quickly damage your already damaged hair. It can help your yellow and orange tones come through quicker than they normally would, too. Consider wearing a hat if you’re going to be outside for long periods of time to minimize damage.

Final Tips to Keep Your Platinum Blonde Hair Healthy

To keep your hair platinum blonde and beautiful, you’ll need to:

Avoid using heat

Invest in a heat protectant spray

Minimize damage from washing

Use condition

Use a hair mask

Use purple shampoo

Protect your hair from the sun

Make sure you have time for touch-ups

If you follow these tips, your platinum blonde hair will be as beautiful as it was in the beginning until you’re ready for a color change!

This content is accurate and true to the best of the author’s knowledge and is not meant to substitute for formal and individualized advice from a qualified professional.

© 2021 Amber Lynn

How to Eliminate Acne With an Anti-Acne Diet

Learn about which foods to avoid and which foods to embrace when battling acne.

Acne Care

Skin

Amber Lynn

Learn about which foods to avoid and which foods to embrace when battling acne.

Amber is a web writer whose articles focus on beauty, skincare, health, and wellness!

What foods you eat can help fight breakouts.

Possible Causes of Acne

There’s nothing fun about acne. Birth control can possibly cause acne (I’ve been there), puberty and acne seem to go hand in hand (my child has been there), and hormones can give you acne before or during your period. That doesn’t mean that you’re stuck with acne though.

Factors such as hormones can make you more prone to acne, but they are not the deciding factor in whether you develop acne or not. In fact, even genetics can’t determine whether your face will be covered in pimples throughout puberty. What you eat may play a major role in whether or not you have acne.

Hormones Don’t Mean You’re Destined to Have Acne

Hormones do play a role in acne, but they aren’t the only culprit behind a face full of pimples. Acne is caused by your pores being clogged with dead skin and oil. Hormones make your body produce more oil than it normally does, which can mean that your pores are more likely to get clogged.

That does not mean that you’re definitely going to have acne if your body is producing more oil. Instead, you’ll need to control what you can. Studies that have contributed to articles like this one show that there is a clear link between nutrition and acne development.

How Does Diet Affect Acne?

Diet affects acne in various ways. It helps determine whether you wind up with more pimples later on this month or not. Your diet can also have a drastic impact on the overall health of your skin in general.

Food Allergies Make You More Prone to Developing Acne

If you have a food allergy, acne might be because of that. Dairy intolerances have been linked to skin conditions like eczema, for example. If you have mild gluten intolerance but continue to eat it anyway, this food allergy can cause blemishes. Consider whether your acne flares up when you eat a food that you have a food allergy to. If it does, it’s time to eliminate that food from your diet.

Spikes in Insulin Make Your Body Produce More Oil

Hormones from puberty and periods aren’t the only things that can make your body produce enough oil to help pimples develop. Insulin can do the same thing, and this doesn’t just happen in diabetics. When you consume sugar, your body will release insulin to help your body remain in homeostasis. However, surges in insulin can make your body secrete more oil.

Your Body Gets Rid Of Toxins Through Your Skin

When we consume toxins, such as those in processed food, our body has multiple ways of getting rid of them. It comes out in our urine, bowel movements, and when we sweat. In fact, more toxins can make a person more likely to develop body odor than a person that eats a natural diet. When your body pushes those toxins out through your skin, you wind up with bacteria on your skin, which could be behind infected pimples or pimples in general.

What Foods Help With Acne?

An anti-acne diet involves eating specific foods that can help you combat pimples from the inside of your body. These foods work hard to produce healthy bacteria. They help your body fight free radicals, toxins and make sure that you’re healthy so your skin is healthy, too.

Foods High in Zinc

Diets that are high in zinc have been linked to fewer cases of acne. It’s believed that this is because zinc is known to reduce inflammation. Some foods that are high in zinc include:

Oysters

Lobster

Beans

Nuts

Beef

Chicken

Tofu

Mushrooms

Foods High in Antioxidants

Antioxidants are known for helping reduce the number of free radicals in our bodies, therefore limiting the damage that they can do. Eating a diet rich in antioxidants can help prevent acne by reducing free radical damage and reducing inflammation. (Inflammation alone can cause clogged pores.) Foods rich in antioxidants include:

Green tea

Red bell peppers

Papaya

Blueberries

Sweet potatoes

Avocados

This brief list is going to be a great place to start with your anti-acne diet. However, there are plenty of other foods that are packed with antioxidants to help you eat your way to clear skin. These foods are simply at the top of the list of foods based on how many antioxidants they contain.

A Mediterranean Styled Diet Can Clear up and Prevent Pimples

Acne is more prevalent in developed nations, particularly in Western culture than in other nations. This is not because of our geographical location. In fact, it’s believed to be because of our diet.

Most Western diets are packed with trans fat, sugar, and other processed junk. This is simply not healthy. Opting for a different styled diet can not only be healthier, but it can also help you get the clear skin you’re after. The key features of a Mediterranean style diet include:

Fruits

Vegetables

Nuts

Seeds

Olive oil

Whole grains

As you can see, there is not a lot of refined sugar or even processed meat in this diet. Instead, it tends to be more natural than any other diet. Personally, I don’t think it would harm anything if you were to add some chicken but still were able to stay primarily on the natural side. You want an anti-acne diet that you can stick to, not one that makes you miserable.

Natural foods are better for your skin.

Foods To Avoid If You Have Acne

It has been well documented that a Western diet can contribute to cases of acne. However, there are so many foods available, it can be hard to pinpoint exactly which ones to avoid on your own. Consider canceling these foods to prevent future breakouts.

Refined Sugar

Sugar is in almost everything that we eat. Even starches like pasta and white bread turn into sugar in our bodies. They make our body produce more insulin, which in turn makes it produce more oil. Try to say no to sweets, and eliminate a lot of starchy foods like pasta, white bread, and processed foods.

Processed Foods

Processed foods, like those you would find in the freezer section, are packed with things that are not good for us. They have toxic ingredients, sugars, preservatives, and far more things that are going to damage our bodies than ingredients that are good for us. They also have a lot more sugar than natural foods.

Processed foods contribute to the level of free radicals and chemicals in our bodies. They are unhealthy for our mind, body, and our skin.

Fast Food

Fast food does the same thing to our body that other processed foods do, but they also have more grease and unknown ingredients than processed foods you pick up at a grocery store. Most people don’t look at the ingredients on chicken nuggets before ordering a 20 piece, and that’s what makes them that much more dangerous. Check out this website for a glimpse at what the world of fast food offers you via chicken nuggets. (They actually have to use something as an “anti-foaming agent” in them.)

Not only do the toxic ingredients cause cancer, but they are also expelled out of the body through our skin, which can lead to acne and pimples. It’s better to remember that you have food at home than to put that toxic stuff in your body. Besides, it can help reduce breakouts!

Avoid fast food to help reduce acne.

In Conclusion

To help combat acne, eat plenty of foods that are rich in zinc and antioxidants. Avoid foods that are processed, full of sugar, and stay away from fast food.

Ipsy is one of the most popular subscription boxes you are going to find if you’re a makeup lover. Depending on which service you choose, you get brand new full size or sample size makeup every month, delivered right to your door. You get a nice mix of skincare, lip care, eyeshadow, eyeliner, lip products, and everything else makeup you can think of. Occasionally, you’ll get nail polish. It gives you the opportunity to play with new makeup and learn new makeup routines that you would have never thought of before!

How Does Ipsy Work?

When you first sign up for Ipsy you’ll take a beauty quiz. This quiz will tell them whether you have any problems you are trying to take care of, like dry, frizzy hair or acne. It also tells them where you’re at in your makeup journey. Are you a beginner or experienced and ready to try new things, for example? Then, when they select products from that month’s selection, they’ll curate your bag so that you get products you’ll actually need and use.

Ipsy Subscription Box Services

Ipsy has several different tiers that you can choose from. Each one offers different things and comes at a different cost. Most people start out at the lowest option to see if they like it, but some start with the highest to get full-size products instead of sample sizes. You can cancel anytime, so it doesn’t really matter which one you choose. You’re not pre-committing to anything on a long term basis.

Ipsy Glam Bag

The Ipsy Glam Bag is what got Ipsy its name. It was their claim to fame years ago and is still one of the most popular options. This is because it’s affordable, and some people just like getting a little something each month for themselves.

Cost

The cost of an Ipsy Glam Bag is only going to cost you $12 per month. The recurring payment is automatically deducted from your PayPal or debit card unless you cancel. So, if you get five products, you’re only spending a little over $2 per product, which is cheaper than buying any of the makeup products at the store.

What You Get

I personally do not get this bag anymore, but I am an Ipsy member so I can log in and see what the selection for last month, and previous months, was. Usually, you get sample sizes, but there is the occasional full-size product. Sometimes members will receive full-size makeup brushes, eyeshadow palettes, or lip products, for example. When I received this one monthly, I never received a full-size skincare product. Here are some of the products that they chose previously when creating the Ipsy Glam Bag:

Briogeo Hair Care sample size Farewell Frizz Leave-In Conditioner

Jonteblu sample size eyeliner in black (it’s waterproof, sweatproof, and has amazing reviews)

Kokie Cosmetics Soft Glow highlighter

111Skin Daycream

Illuminati Cosmetics quad eyeshadow palette in Enlightened

Smashbox Cosmetics Oil and Shine Control Primer

There were also hair masks, lip moisturizers, hand creams, Tarte concealer, mascara, blushes, foundations, under-eye anti-aging creams, brushes, and more! The selection they have to choose from when it comes to what they put in your bag each month is pretty diverse, so you can trust that you’ll mainly get products you either want or need based on your answers to the questions in the quiz.

Personal Opinion

I used to love my Ipsy Glam Bag. The main problem that I had with this was that I wound up with so many tiny samples. However, I started using them as stocking stuffers and that solved a lot of that. It’s really fun if you like to play with makeup.

Glam Bag Plus

The Glam Bag Plus is next on the subscription tier. Instead of five random samples, you get five full-size products. Ipsy has begun to let members choose three of their products every month, guaranteeing that you get things you love.

Cost

When you select the Ipsy Glam Bag Plus, the cost is a little bit higher than it is with the Glam Bag. You’re going to be charged $25 per month. However, that means you’re getting full-sized, brand-name beauty products for five bucks a month. You can’t find a deal better than that anywhere.

What You Get

Those full-size products won’t do you a single bit of good if you don’t use them. Here are some examples of things included previously in the Glam Bag Plus:

Billion Dollar Brows Best Brow Tool Kit Ever

First Aid Beauty Gentle Foaming Face Cleanser

Naked Cosmetics 4 Piece Pigment Set

About Face Eye Paint

Dr. Brandt Skincare Sleep Mask

IT Cosmetics Foundation Brush

Complex Culture Lip Gloss

Purlisse Beauty Moisturizer

Popular brands in Ipsy bags vary on a monthly basis. Sometimes you get Smashbox or Morphe, and sometimes you don’t. I used to research brands I’ve never heard of it, and you can trust that most of them are high quality brands.

Personal Opinion

I get the Ipsy Glam Bag Plus, and I love it. They let you customize three of the products, so I wind up with stuff that I need or want. I love face masks, so I always pick those and wind up with plenty, even on the months when they aren’t offered in my Glam Bag Plus. I think it’s more than worth it.

Glam Bag X (Previously Known As Glam Bag Ultimate)

The Glam Bag Ultimate is the highest tier in Glam Bag Subscriptions. However, you don’t receive it monthly like you do the other ones. (You’d wind up with a stockpile of products!) Instead, it only ships quarterly (four times per year.)

This is an add-on subscription. Once you subscribe to a Glam Bag or Glam Bag Plus, you can then subscribe to the Glam Bag X. When this bag ships, it will replace your regular subscription. However, you have to receive your bag every month in order to qualify for an upgrade, and there is a waiting list most of the time.

Cost

The cost of this bag is a bit higher than the other ones. You’ll be charged $55 per month when this one ships.

What You Get

In every Glam Bag X you get 7-8 full size products. Typically, these are from the same selection as Glam Bag Plus members. You simply get more of them. However, there are a few months that Glam Bag X subscribers will get exclusive products that aren’t seen in other bags. Some great examples of things featured in the Glam Bag X in the past include:

About Face Paint It Lip Color

Kitsch Velvet Scrunchies

Huda Beauty Rose Gold Full Size Eyeshadow Pallette

Complex Culture T-Bar Facial Massager

Benefit Cosmetics Gimme Brow

Billion Dollar Brows Complete Brow Kit

I’ve never seen a facial massager or velvet scrunchies in my Glam Bag Plus, so you do get a bit more of a selection when you opt for this subscription.

Personal Opinion

I’m currently on the waiting list for the Glam Bag X. I like that you get 7-8 products, which balances out to approximately the same $5 per product that you receive with the Glam Bag Plus. Most people already subscribed to this one appreciate the wider selection, as well. I can’t wait to start receiving mine!

Ipsy Refreshments

Ipsy Refreshments is the latest addition to the line up of Ipsy Subscriptions. Instead of make-up, this subscription focuses on personal care. Everything you get is a part of the Ipsy Refreshments line. The great thing about this subscription is that you get to personalize every single thing you get. You can pick up face wipes one month, decide you no longer need them and cancel them, etc. You can also unsubscribe at any time.

Cost

There is not necessarily a set cost for this subscription. Instead, you can pick and choose what you want. You pay for what you get. (All subscriptions have to be changed by the end of the month, and new items are automatically added to your next box.) The cost per item tends to fall between $5-10 so far.

What You Get

You get whatever you would like in your Ipsy Refreshments subscription. You can order one of everything, or only pick up the things you’re interested in. For example, I love Bath and Body Works and Victoria’s Secret body washes and lotions. Because of that, I don’t add any of those products to my monthly box. However, I do get facial wipes and will be receiving their razor in the next one. Here is the current line-up of products available, and what they will cost you:

Five Blade Razor Kit $5

Five Blade Razor Kit Refills (2 Refill Razor Cartridges) $5

Cleansing Face Wipes $6

Velvety Body Cream $9

Luscious Hand Cream $5

Pillowy Shave Cream $6

Pearly Body Wash $9

Personal Opinion

I think it’s great, but only to an extent. I don’t use some of the products or don’t want them. However, I do hate buying razors so you can’t beat the convenience factor of having them shipped with your Glam Bag every month. I also use facial cleansing wipes, so I’m happy with that.

Being able to personalize this subscription is one of the main things I appreciate about it. I don’t wind up paying for anything that I’m not going to use. I pay less than retail price for things like razors, and I trust that they’re good quality because Ipsy doesn’t usually let me down.

Other Perks You Get As An Ipsy Subscriber

Cheap brand name makeup has got to be the biggest perk you’re going to have as an Ipsy subscriber. Convenience is another. I live in a small town, and the closest Sephora is an hour away. There are a couple of other perks you can enjoy, though.

Ipsy Points

Every time that you post a review, and share it, you get Ipsy points. You’ll get 15 Ipsy points per product. That doesn’t seem like a lot, but those points add up. Then, they can be redeemed for free products.

Coupon Codes For Awesome Brands

Every month, Ipsy has different products from different brands. You’ll be able to shop those brands and receive a discount on products. This is awesome if you love a particular brand that you see in Ipsy!

Ipsy FAQ

Is Ipsy worth it?

Definitely. For sample products, you’re paying a little over two dollars per product from hot brand names, like Smashbox. Full-size products sent in the Glam Bag Plus and Glam Bag X will only cost you around five bucks each.

Does Ipsy ship to the UK?

No, but you can use a package forwarding company that handles international shipping for you.

Is Boxycharm or Ipsy better?

Ipsy offers more subscription options. They also let you temporarily pause the subscription if you find you’re getting too many products. The addition of Ipsy Refreshments makes it stand out even more. Ipsy also lets you personalize your bag, so you pick the products you want.

What products come in Ipsy bags?

Ipsy includes a wide variety of products. You get lip products, eye products, brow kits, facial cleansers, face masks, and more. Subscribers can receive tools, like facial massagers, jade rollers, makeup brushes, etc.

Can you buy products from Ipsy?

Yes, but only if you are a member. Each month, members can select additional products, referred to as add-ons. These are sold at a discount price. You can also click on an Ipsy Shopper tab to discover awesome deals at the same discount prices. These are typically products that were included in their boxes for the month.

In Conclusion

Ipsy Glam Bags are more than worth it if you love makeup and beauty products. They even offer tutorials to help you learn fun new ways to play with makeup. However, if you’re not a fan of having a lot of make-up, and prefer to stick with the basics, Ipsy might not be for you.

This content reflects the personal opinions of the author.

Dark circles under the eyes can make you look older than you are, exhausted and a bit disheveled. It doesn’t matter how great you look, those Prada bags under your eyes will kill your entire vibe. Instead of layering on concealer as a part of your morning routine, learn common causes and how to get rid of dark circles under the eyes.

What Causes Dark Circles Under Eyes?

While being tired is most commonly associated with dark circles under the eyes, this is only one of the reasons you might look like you need a nap. Genetics, aging, allergies, anemia, stress, and dehydration are also common causes.

Lack of Sleep

If you’re not getting enough sleep, that alone can cause your dark under-eye circles. On average, we need 7-8 hours of sleep a night. Sometimes, that isn’t possible, but you need to try to get an adequate amount of rest every night. Dark circles are just one of the side effects of not getting enough sleep.

Genetics

Unfortunately, genetics play a major role in whether or not you develop dark circles under your eyes. If your mom or dad was known for having the same condition, you are instantly at a genetic predisposition of developing dark circles too. However, that doesn’t mean that you’re cursed. Practicing healthy habits can give you beautiful, bag free skin under your eyes.

Aging

As you get older, your skin naturally becomes thinner. It loses collagen and elasticity, which is what makes it thinner. This results in being able to see the blood vessels or veins that are underneath the skin easier. If you’re aging, you might not have dark under-eye circles. It could just be that your skin is a little thinner than it used to be.

Iron Deficiency Anemia

Iron deficiency anemia is a very common medical condition, and one of the most common deficiencies. It’s believed that this can cause, or at least contribute, to under-eye circles because enough oxygen is not getting delivered to every part of the body. It can make your skin more likely to be discolored.

Stress Makes Them Appear More Noticeable

Stress can make your skin paler, which is going to make your dark circles really stand out. On top of that, when you’re stressed you don’t sleep as well as you normally would. This makes them darker than they already were.

Dehydration Also Makes Them Appear More Noticeable

When you’re dehydrated, your body keeps whatever water it can for vital functions, like your organs. The tiny area of skin underneath your eye does not make it to the list of vital things that need water. This ultimately leads to your eyes looking sunken in, and those dark circles underneath the eyes are more noticeable than they were before.

Dehydration also contributes by making your eyes puffy. Your body will retain water if you’re mildly dehydrated, which is why you will get bags under your eyes if you’re not drinking enough water.

Natural Remedies to Get Rid of Dark Circles Under the Eyes

Getting Plenty of Sleep Can Slowly Eliminate Dark Circles

We typically need 7-8 hours of sleep a night with the occasional exception. Some people need more, and some people need significantly less. If you wake up feeling tired, you’re not getting an adequate amount of sleep. Practice positive sleeping habits to make sure you get your eight hours a night. Here are some examples:

Eliminate caffeine after dinner

Go to bed at the same time every night

Don’t eat large meals before going to bed

Avoid screen time before bed (the light keeps your brain awake)

Make sure you have a cozy environment to sleep in

Taking the time to make sure that you sleep well every night will slowly make your dark under-eye circles fade away.

Practice Positive Coping Skills When You’re Stressed

Stress can wreak havoc on your entire body, including the little area underneath your eyes. Most of us hold in our emotions and stress because we have to in order to get things done throughout the day, but this does little for our mental health or the circles under the eyes. Instead, find a healthy way to release stress and practice calming techniques like these:

Boxing class

Running

Exercise

Deep breathing

Meditation

Cooking

Listening to music

If it helps you feel at peace, it counts as a wonderful coping skill! As your stress slowly reduces, you’ll find that you both look and feel better.

Get Plenty of Iron to Naturally Reduce Dark Circles

Iron deficiency anemia is believed to contribute to dark circles under the eyes. This is because it helps transport oxygen throughout the body, and, once again, that tiny area under your eyes is not at the top of the priority list. Make sure that you get plenty of iron by eating iron-rich foods, like leafy greens, red meat, and poultry, or by taking a daily iron supplement.

Put Cold Spoons on Your Eyes for 15 Minutes

This will not eliminate dark circles under the eyes instantly, but it does make them look a lot better. It will drastically reduce puffiness, too.

Simply put two cold spoons in the freezer for twenty minutes. Then, place them on your eyes. The coldness is the same as applying a cold compress to a bruise! It will make the dark circles look lighter, help you look refreshed instead of tired and it will get rid of bags under the eyes.

What is the Best Product to Get Rid of Dark Circles Under the Eyes?

Pur-lisse Blue Lotus 4 in 1 Eye Adore Serum

This is a bit of an older product, but it’s the one product that I swear by. I have an iron deficiency, am always busy so I occasionally don’t get enough sleep, and have three children and a grandchild. Genetics are also not on my side when it comes to bags and dark circles under the eyes. I got a sample size of this in an Ipsy bag years ago, and have been using it ever since. A tiny dab every night, and I never see dark circles under the eyes. They aren’t puffy either! This is a quick way to get rid of bags under the eyes and dark circles.

View the original article to see embedded media.

Malin+Goetz Revitalizing Eye Gel

I took a small break from my Pur-lisse when I got a full-size bottle of this in my Ipsy Glam Box (I upgraded…) It doesn’t work as well with dark circles as the Pur-lisse, but it’s worth a shot if your circles aren’t dark enough to make it look like you have a black eye. It does help lighten them and is quicker at reducing puffiness than the Pur-lisse does. If bags under the eyes are your main concern, this is a great product to try.

FAQ

What deficiency causes dark circles?

It’s believed that an iron deficiency contributes to dark circles.

Chapstick is everyone’s go-to remedy for chapped lips. It comes in delicious flavors that won’t bother you when you lick your lips, can fit in a pocket or purse, and can be great for your lips during those dreaded winter months that are full of dry, cold air.

Yet, there are quite a few things to know about chapstick before picking up a tube the next time you’re at the store. Not all chapstick is created equal. There are even a few downsides that can go hand in hand with using this convenient remedy for dry lips.

Chapped Lips Happen to Everyone

Chapped lips seem to be a part of life. This could be because we drink less water during certain seasons because it’s not as hot. The air itself is unbelievably dry, which makes you more prone to getting dry skin everywhere, including on your lips.

Even though chapped lips are common, it doesn’t mean that you have to suffer for months on end. Lip balms, chapsticks, Carmax, lip scrubs, and other wonderful lip care products are readily available to keep your lips kissably smooth all year long. It’s important to make sure that you’re informed about these products so that you can pick one that will help you instead of making the situation worse.

What is Lip Balm?

These are small cosmetic tubes that are similar to lipstick. They are supposed to prevent chapped lips. Most companies have their own special formula. This means that some products might provide additional benefits, like nourishing your lips, providing protection from the sun, and preventing chapped lips.

The Most Common Lip Balm Ingredients

Because every company formulates its own lip balm, they all have their own ingredients. For example, some will contain beeswax as a base while others will consist more of petroleum. However, there are some ingredients that are seen more often than others. Learn more about the ingredients used in lip balms to make sure that you’re picking one up that is right for you and your chapped lips.

Beeswax

Beeswax is used to help coat the lips, which therefore reduces the chance that you’re going to suffer from dry, chapped lips due to the cold air. If the weather can’t reach your lips, it can’t hurt them!

On the downside, when beeswax is made by bees, it also contains something called propolis, something that bees use in their hives. Over one-tenth of people tested developed contact dermatitis due to this. If you are allergic to honey or have ever had a problem with contact dermatitis, pay attention to whether this ingredient is listed. It can cause peeling lips.

Fragrance

Fragrance is an umbrella term that companies use on the ingredients list. It can be used as a substitute for anything that makes the product smell good. Fragrance could mean one essential oil or several known carcinogens that you would never go near if you knew they were going to go on your lips. Because this is how companies make their products smell delicious is considered a trade secret, they’re not required to tell consumers what’s in them. Instead, they must simply label it as “fragrance.” Avoid this. You have no idea what they are using as a fragrance if this is the only word used on the ingredients list.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is making a huge comeback in lip products compared to where it was in recent years. This is because more of us are opting for natural products. It’s also because so many consumers already know the plethora of benefits that go hand in hand with coconut oil.

Toxic Ingredients

Some lip balms are loaded with toxic ingredients. This blogger did a wonderful article detailing all of the ingredients in Chapstick brand products. There are some that can cause contact dermatitis but aren’t otherwise concerning, like Vitamin E oil. There are others that will make you double-check the ingredient list before picking up some Chapstick.

Types Of Lip Balm

Personally, even though I am well aware of the toxic ingredients in Chapstick, I still have a tube. If it’s cold and my lips are dry, it’s right there in my purse. I have yet to have any adverse reactions to it, so I’m okay with the occasional use when I’m not wearing makeup. If you’re planning on picking up a tube of lip balm, it’s important to understand the different types of this product on the market so you have one that meets your needs.

Flavored Lip Balm

Flavored lip balm is widely popular, especially among children and teens. If you lick your lips a lot, you’ll appreciate flavored lip balm that tastes delicious! There are products available in every flavor imaginable, from candy, like Skittles, to Coca Cola. (My youngest daughter loves candy flavored lip balm!) Most flavored lip balm also comes with other benefits, such as having coconut oil or an SPF included.

Tinted Lip Balm

Tinted lip balm is usually available in a variation of pink to give your lips a touch of color while still protecting them from the elements. If you’re a bit irritated that you can’t wear your favorite lipstick because of your chapped lips, tinted products provide a nice compromise.

Lip Balm With SPF

Lip products with SPF are designed to protect your lips from being chapped and the harmful rays of the sun. The rays of the sun can damage your lips, making them more dry and prone to damage from the elements than they already are. Products with SPF are usually available as flavored or tinted lip balm, too.

Coconut Lip Balm

This is any lip balm that includes coconut oil. This is the most hydrating lip balm that I have ever used. In fact, I use coconut oil on my kids in place of lip products when they’re at home. It will keep your lips from becoming dry, and it’s available in a convenient tube that is perfect for keeping in your purse.

Pros and Cons Of Using Chapstick

Chapstick is one of the most popular items sold during winter, particularly if you live in a state that is known for having harsh winters. While it may be convenient, it does come with a few different pros and cons that you’ll need to keep in mind before picking up a tube the next time you’re at the store.

Pros

Convenient

No one can ever claim that Chapstick is inconvenient. It’s available in small tubes that fit perfectly everywhere, from in the car to in a guy’s pocket. It’s also readily available. Most stores have a Chapstick display by the register for those long, cold months.

Affordable

Chapstick is also one of the most affordable options. You can pick up a tube for a dollar. Some versions may be a bit more expensive, such as the flavored varieties, but that doesn’t mean that all chapstick is expensive. In fact, it’s more affordable than any other remedy.

Cons

Chapstick Can Make Your Dry Lips Worse

While Chapstick may provide temporary relief, that relief might come at a cost. Chapstick works by putting a thin layer of moisture on the top of your lips. As this thin layer dissolves, you will find that your lips are still dry. This is because it does nothing to help your lips heal. As it evaporates, it makes your lips drier.

Toxic Ingredients

The toxic ingredients that can be found in Chapstick are one of the main reasons that people are tossing the tubes in the trash and opting for natural remedies instead. Remember, if it says fragrance on the label, you have no idea what is in that little tube.

So, Should You Use Lip Balm?

There is no harm in using Chapstick on occasion. It should be used to protect your lips during winter weather or from the sun, not as a solution to dry lips. When using Chapstick, make sure to use it sparingly.

When you need something daily for dehydrated, chapped lips, consider an all natural home remedy like coconut oil. A proper lip care routine is also essential to keeping your lips as smooth as satin.

This content is accurate and true to the best of the author’s knowledge and is not meant to substitute for formal and individualized advice from a qualified professional.

© 2020 Amber Lynn

10 Secrets to Getting Rid of Dry Skin on Lips

To get rid of dead or dry skin on your lips, follow these ten tips.
10 steps to alleviate dry, chapped lips.

If you’re anything like me, winter weather is an instant recipe for having dry, cracked lips. It starts when the chilly air of fall hits. Before you know it, you’re waking up with cracked lips. The dead skin peels off, making it impossible to wear lipstick and have it look good. There are a few things that you can incorporate into your routine to make your lips kissably soft every day of the week!

Why Do We Get Dry, Chapped Lips?

Lips are one of the few areas of the body that do not have oil glands. For example, when your face gets dry, oil glands ramp up production to help keep your face moisturized. Lips are not capable of doing this, making them more prone to being dry. This, in turn, makes dead skin start to flake and peel off.

How to Get Rid of and Prevent Dry Skin on Your Lips

Dry skin seems inevitable for some people, myself included. Follow these ten tips to get rid of dry skin and prevent it from happening again.

Gently scrub away dead skin with a toothbrush.

Moisturize to help chapped lips.

Make sure that you stay hydrated by increasing your water intake.

Turn off the fan during the winter (if you can).

Prevent sinus congestion to help you sleep with your mouth closed.

Exfoliate your lips regularly.

Develop a lip care routine.

Carry Chapstick or lip balm in your purse.

Invest in Neosporin lip treatment to heal scabby lips.

Don’t lick your lips!

Once you start to incorporate these tips into your daily life, you won’t have to worry about dry skin every day!

1. Gently Scrub Away Dead Skin With a Toothbrush

After you’re done brushing your teeth in the morning, make sure that all of the toothpaste is rinsed off of your toothbrush. Then, gently rub the toothbrush along your lips in a circular motion. This can help remove some of the dead skin from your lips. It’s a cheap, effective alternative to exfoliating, and you can do it daily.

Coconut oil is a great moisturizer for your lips.

2. Moisturize to Help Chapped Lips

Coconut oil is one of the best ways to moisturize your lips! When you apply coconut oil will depend on your makeup routine. If you love to wear lipstick or lip gloss, apply the coconut oil at night before going to bed. If you’re not a fan of makeup or stay away from lipsticks, you can carry a small container of coconut oil with you to apply it throughout the day.

To apply coconut oil, dip your finger or a cotton swab in the coconut oil. Then, apply a small amount to your lips. Remember that a little bit goes a long way!

3. Make Sure That You Stay Hydrated

Keeping your body properly hydrated starts from within. Help keep dry skin from forming by making sure that you stay hydrated. If you’re not a fan of plain water, try:

Foods packed with water, like watermelon

Water enhancement options (I really like Mio)

Gatorade or Powerade

Water with a slice of lemon

As long as the inside of your body is hydrated, the outside of your body will be more hydrated, too!

4. Turn off the Fan for the Winter

When the wind blows on your face consistently, it results in dry, chapped skin. The same thing happens when you sleep with the fan on. If you need white noise to sleep, consider a white noise machine or point the fan away from your face at night.

5. Prevent Sinus Congestion to Help You Sleep With Your Mouth Closed

Even if you don’t breathe through your mouth all day, there’s a good chance that you’re sleeping with your mouth open. The second your nose gets congested, you open your mouth in your sleep. Pick up some decongestants to stop breathing through your mouth. This is usually the culprit behind dry skin that is worse in the morning.

6. Exfoliate Your Lips

Exfoliating your lips is just like exfoliating your face. You rub a lip scrub across your lips. Then, leave it on for the length of time the directions state. Usually, this is only a few minutes. Finally, rinse it off.

I use this organic lip scrub that works amazingly well. The directions say to use it twice weekly, but I use it during my weekly routines every Sunday with awesome results.

DIY Lip Scrub

If you want to save some money, DIY lip scrubs are always a great option! These are a bit more budget friendly, and you always know exactly what ingredients are in your DIY products. This article has three easy-to-make recipes that use ingredients from your kitchen.

7. Develop a Lip Care Routine

A lip care routine is important to make sure that your lips stay smooth. Exfoliating once is a great idea, but you need to be consistent to see continued results. My lip care routine consists of exfoliating once a week and applying coconut oil nightly.

Then, I make adjustments as needed. If I have a cold, I take something before I go to bed. When I break my own rule and pick at my lips, therefore making them significantly worse, I upgrade to a Neosporin lip treatment.

Chapstick, coconut oil, or lip balm are great ways to moisturize and protect your lips.

8. Carry Chapstick or Lip Balm in Your Purse

When your lips are dry, they need to be moisturized throughout the day. Remember, they can't moisturize themselves. Pick up some chapstick or lip balm and toss it into your purse. As the day goes on, apply it any time that your lips feel dry.

9. Invest in Neosporin Lip Treatment to Heal Scabby Lips

I try so hard not to pick at my lips. I’ve been great at sticking to proper lip care these last few years. Before that, I couldn’t help but pick at the dead skin. A friend of mine bought me some overnight Neosporin lip treatment, and I have been a huge fan ever since.

If your lips are scabby, apply a thick coating before bed at night. You’ll see a drastic improvement by morning. This lip treatment can also help protect your lips if they tend to get dry at night. People that simply cannot sleep without a fan on their face can benefit from this being part of their nightly routine.

10. Don’t Lick Your Lips!

According to this article, licking your lips is a recipe for disaster. Saliva contains powerful enzymes to break down food. If it can help break down half-eaten pieces of food because you ate too quickly, just imagine what it can do to the delicate skin on your lips! Instead, apply lip balm or chapstick.

FAQ

What Causes Dead Skin on Lips?

Lack of moisture either in the body, such as dehydration, or simply on your lips. As the skin gets chapped, it starts to peel. This turns into dead skin.

Should I Peel Dead Skin off of Lips?

No! You can accidentally peel off too much and damage your healthy skin. Instead, pick up a pair of fingernail clippers or cuticle scissors to get rid of dead skin to guarantee that you don’t accidentally peel off healthy skin. Make sure you sanitize whatever tool you use first.

How Do You Get Rid of Scabby Lips Fast?

Pick up some Neosporin overnight lip treatment. Apply a thick coat before bed. Then, reapply throughout the day. You’ll begin to see improvements in just a couple of days!

Why Do My Lips Peel When I Wear Lip Balm?

You’re sensitive to at least one of the ingredients. Purchase another brand, or opt for a natural remedy. Coconut oil is a great alternative!

Is Coconut Oil Good for Your Lips?

Yes! The moisturizing properties found in coconut oil can help keep your lips silky soft. Put some in a small plastic container to carry in your purse to have at the ready.

Prevention Is Key

If you already have dry skin on your lips, use preventative methods to make sure that it doesn’t get worse. Then, continue to use them and implement a lip care routine to ensure that you don’t have dead skin peeling from your lips in the future.

Quick Makeup Routine for Moms

Being a mom is tough.

As a single mom with three children and a grandbaby, my life is the definition of busy. I wake up early, take a child to work, babysit the grandbaby, homeschool children, and somehow manage to fit in work. Simultaneously, I always try to look my best while accomplishing all of this.

I never know when I will have family stop by or have to run a last-minute errand! That’s why I have a fast makeup routine and have learned quite a few simple makeup tips! I get to enjoy the benefits of looking great despite not having an hour to spend in front of the mirror.

Benefits Of Looking Your Best

It can be tempting to wear pj pants all day, especially when you’re working from home, and both of your kids are attending school via Google classroom. Yet, I try to resist the urge to lounge around all day. Making sure that you look your best has a few great benefits.

Increased Self Confidence

When you look better, you feel better. A little bit of eyeshadow and putting on a cute outfit will instantly make you feel wonderful about yourself. The end result of this is that you wind up happier with yourself and in life. Your clients will hear it when you’re on the phone. Teachers will be nicer to you when your child acts up. You will have a certain air about you that demands respect.

Increased Productivity Is One Of The Biggest Benefits Of Looking Good Everyday

Pajama days quickly turn into lazy days. Those days are perfect for weekends cuddling with the babies and relaxing movie nights. They’re even better for sick days. However, I’ve found that when I try to turn weekdays into pajama days, I get almost nothing accomplished. The house turns into a reflection of my own appearance. Work is minimal. I don’t put my best effort forward. Even my clients notice it (I’m a full-time freelance writer.) This is one of the best reasons to get dressed every day.

Random Encounters Are Less Awkward

When a person looks less than their best, and suddenly the hot post office guy knocks at the door, it instantly makes the conversation awkward. Going to the school last minute is even more awkward. When you start off the day by getting dressed and making sure your makeup is on point, you know you look amazing for the rest of the day.

Establishing A Quick Makeup Routine

Quick makeup routines are always a great thing to have. Even if you spend hours in front of the mirror most days, there are going to be days that you need a quickie routine because you’re running late.

Personally, I am using a quick makeup routine daily right now. Between one child needing to be at work at seven in the morning, another needing to be ready for school by 7:30 and a third needing to be logged into Google classroom by 8:30, I simply do not have time for long morning makeup routines. These are some of the tips that I use that guarantee I look awesome and don’t take a lot of time.

Know Your Routine

Before you can master doing your makeup in five minutes flat, you have to know your routine. If you don’t have one yet, remember to go in this order:

Skincare

Primer (including eye primer)

Eyebrows

Eyes (including both eyeshadow and eyeliner)

Foundation and concealer (you can also apply this before doing your eyebrows and eyes)

Bronzer/ Highlighter/ Blush

Lips

Setting spray or powder

When you already know what you’re going to do, you can instantly do it faster. If you’re new to the world of makeup, try to save the things that you’re still practicing for days when you have more time.

Lay Out Your Products Beforehand

Instead of trying to find a gold shimmer eyeshadow in the morning, lay it out the night before. Thanks to my Ipsy bag, I have a wealth of everything from primers to eyeshadow pallets. I own four different black eyeliners (each with their own benefits.) I also like to mix things up. Sometimes, brow powder is nice. Other days, a quick brow filler pencil is where it’s at. Laying out products the night before can instantly make your morning routine go faster.

Go Minimal

If you find that your makeup routine just isn’t fitting into the allotted five minutes that you have, go minimal where you can. That means minimize anything possible. Use less foundation. Don’t bother with a ten-step process to hide your dark circles (just use concealer pencil to eliminate them most of the way.) Skip your eyeliner if you must. Remember, you should look put together. It doesn’t mean you have to wear everything every day. As you get used to doing your makeup routine in a hurry, you’ll be able to implement things that you have cut out back into your morning routine.

If you’re not sure what to cut out, take a good look in the mirror and decide what you can live without. Then, look at how much time you spend doing individual things. For example, I know that I spend more time on my eyeliner, but this is my makeup must-have. Days that I don’t even have five minutes, I at least stop to put on eyeliner. However, I can say forget concealer and other things for a day because I have an awesome skincare routine and a few tricks to get rid of dark circles that go a long way.

11 Quick Makeup Steps

If you have not come up with your own routine yet or don’t have time to, that’s okay! This sample routine will get you out the door in minutes. (I’ve included a few other tips in case this one doesn’t feel right.)

Tinted moisturizer. This can be used as a substitute for foundation because it helps even out your skin tone.

Concealer pen. A concealer pen helps to cover under-eye circles. These are easier to use, and less time consuming than using a powder foundation to cover one spot on your face.

Brow Pencil. A brow pencil that closely matches your brow color can quickly fill in your brows.

Brow Brush. Tame those wild brows with a quick brushing.

Eyebrow Gel. Finally, your eyebrows need some quick eyebrow gel. (Leave it out; we’re not done with it yet . . . )

Eyeshadow. Use a pre-planned eyeshadow. If you don’t have one, go with an eyeshadow crayon. These are easier to apply anyway!

Eyeliner. Use eyeliner to thicken up your lashes. If you’re really tired, don’t forget to apply a light color to your bottom lid. This instantly makes you look more awake!

Mascara. Brush on some mascara to instantly life and open your eyes.

Eyebrow Gel, Again. One more coat of eyebrow gel. When you apply two coats, it gives your eyebrows a sleeker finish with a slight dewy touch that is flawless.

Lipstick or Gloss. Skip the tedious lip liner and apply a quick coat of gloss, lipstick, your favorite lip fondant, etc.

Setting Spray. Setting spray is quicker than applying powder. A few quick spritzes and you’re done as soon as it’s dry! I use one from Urban Decay. It dries in under a minute and keeps everything in place perfectly.

This is my personal makeup routine, but it might not work for you. If you’re not a fan of a particular thing, like eyebrow gel, simply opt-out of that step, and your morning makeup routine just got significantly quicker!

Quick Makeup Tips For Moms

If you need to cut back on your makeup routine even further, these tips are going to help you get there!

Eyebrows And Eyeliner Only

This look is a bit more basic, but it still looks great! The first thing that people notice about you is your eyebrows, so it’s always important to make sure they’re done. Then, add on some jet black eyeliner for a minimal makeup look that still appears put together.

Stay Hydrated

Staying properly hydrated will work wonders for your skin! It can help even out your skin tone, reduce circles under your eyes, and reduce pimples. When you eliminate the problems that you use makeup to cover up, you instantly have less than you need to incorporate into your morning makeup routine.

Pick Up a BB Cream

BB Cream is your best friend on manic mornings! This cream can be used to even skin tone while providing the coverage that you need. It simultaneously gives your look a boost while eliminating the extra steps of foundation and, occasionally, concealer.

Focus On Your Eyes Or Lips

Instead of applying makeup to the entire face, just choose one. This simple makeup tip will provide a chic look that is as effortless as it sounds. It also gives you the chance to highlight your favorite features about yourself! Draw attention to your lips with a makeup-free face except for baby pink lip gloss!

Tinted Chapstick

When I was a child, long before I was allowed to wear makeup, I was a huge fan of chocolate chapstick. It gave my lips that extra little tint that looked like I was wearing a touch of lipstick. Yet, I never got in trouble for this because it was just chapstick.

Now, this is one of my favorite ideas for rushed mornings. Tinted lip balm applies a slight tint to your lips, and it requires no effort. As a bonus, you can apply it in the middle of a meeting without looking like you’re fixing your makeup!

Try Out These Tips

Just because you’re rushed in the morning doesn’t mean that you have to look like a hot mess. These makeup tips will help you look your best even when you’re pressed for time. What are your favorite simple makeup tips?

This content is accurate and true to the best of the author’s knowledge and is not meant to substitute for formal and individualized advice from a qualified professional.

© 2020 Amber Lynn

My Top 4 Favorite Lip Products

Spice up your morning routine with some of my favorite lip products.

Lip Products

Makeup

Amber Lynn

Spice up your morning routine with some of my favorite lip products.

I love sharing my favorite makeup products with others. I got some of these products through my Ipsy bag, and the others are items I saw and was dying to try. Either way, they all made it to the top of my list. If you’re looking to spice up your makeup collection, pick up one of these, and you will fall in love with playing dress-up all over again.

1. Smashbox Cosmetics Insta-Matte Lipstick Transformer

Forget doing an entire makeup overhaul to stay up with the latest trends. Instead of tossing out the old lipstick to pick up the hottest new matte colors, go with Smashbox Cosmetics Insta-Matte Lipstick Transformer.

This stuff works great with lipstick. First, you apply your lipstick like you normally would. Then, you apply a generous amount of this stuff to your lips. It instantly makes the lipstick go from glossy to matte.

Even if you aren’t a trend follower, this is just a fun make-up product to play with and use. You can even pick up some in a sample size if you’re on a budget.

Keep in mind that you can only use this with lipstick, not lip gloss. I tried to use mine with lip gloss anyway, and it created a mess of sticky goop on my lips. And it was not matte.

Other than that, I love it because I'm in love with the matte look, and I don't have to buy new lipstick.

2. Lip Paint

I didn’t post a brand because there are so many great ones out there, and my favorite seems to change every couple of months. Right now, it’s Tarte. I wore it once and was hooked. I smoke a lot, and it’s awesome because it seriously does not come off. It doesn’t come off on my cigarettes, on my cups, and it takes hours to wear off. I had to reapply this stuff once towards the late afternoon.

I like the red for those dramatic days and the pale pink for those adorable girly days, but they have lip paint available in every color. If you are still using lipstick and re-applying it every hour or two, it’s definitely time for an upgrade.

3. Too Faced Lip Injection Gloss

This lip plumper can take your lips from thin and barely there to almost Kylee Jenner in a matter of seconds. It comes in a tube that looks like lip gloss. You put it on the lips just like you would put on lip gloss, and this lip plumper even looks shiny just like lip gloss does.

Then, you’re going to feel a “tingling” sensation. This is the part about lip plumper that most people hate. It seems like “tingling sensation” is a code word for “burns like hell” to make-up companies, especially when it comes to lip plumper. It does burn for a minute, but then it goes away and your lips will still look plump and juicy. I personally don’t think it’s unbearable, and I think it’s awesome how well this lip plumper works.

If you’re willing to deal with a few minutes of burning and tingling to get plump, juicy lips, you want to try this stuff out. And did I mention that it smells delicious?

4. Lip Exfoliator

If you have never tried a lip exfoliator product, add this one to the list, especially if you have dry, rough lips.

Lip exfoliators work just like face exfoliators, but they are made specifically for your lips. You simply wet your lips, rub the exfoliator on your lips like you rub soap on your face when you wash your face.

Then, you rinse it off with water. The result will be lips that are perfectly soft and kissable, and you won't have to fill them in with a lip primer because they are dry and rough, so you might wind up saving money in the long run.

If you want to try something different, check out these four lip products. If you love to play with make-up, you'll love the insta-matte product from Smashbox. Even if you don't want to play with make-up or feel pampered, if you have rough or dry lips, a lip exfoliate is where it's at.

I guarantee you’re going to fall in love.

Ipsy Glam Bag Review

Get five makeup samples or full-sized products for $10 a month

Makeup

Amber Lynn

Get five makeup samples or full-sized products for $10 a month

I've used Ipsy for a number of years now, and I think their Glam Bag is a great deal.

What Is Ipsy?

Ipsy glam bags consist of four or five beauty/makeup samples or full-size products that come in a cute makeup bag. These items range from beauty products (facial cleanser, a hair mask) and makeup (eyeliner, mascara, lip gloss, etc.) to tools (eyelash curlers and makeup brushes) and nail polish.

If you would like to find out if Ipsy Glam bags are for you, check out how to get started, how it works, and what I got in my Ipsy bags (as well as other products that were available that month.)

Getting Started

To get started receiving your Ipsy bag, you need to subscribe.

Once you have subscribed to Ipsy, you will be asked to enter your billing information. This requires a debit or credit card that will be billed at the beginning of the month. You are free to cancel your subscription at any time.

Another part of getting started involves taking a short beauty quiz. The answers to this quiz will help determine what products you receive in your glam bag. For example, I get extremely dry skin, particularly on my face. Because of that, I have received multiple facial cleansers with additional moisturizers. After you subscribe, you will also always have the option to re-take the beauty quiz if you would like to receive different products. For example, I received a lot of eye shadow in different shades of brown at first. I retook the beauty quiz and stated that I had hazel eyes (I have brown eyes), and then received different shades of eye shadow.

After subscribing and taking the beauty quiz, you will be added to the waiting list. Some people are on the waiting list for a month, while some people are never on the waiting list. I was originally on the waiting list but was then sent an email telling me to share Ipsy on facebook, and then I started getting my Ipsy bag the next month.

How It Works

Glam Rooms

Around the seventh of the month, your glam room will be live. Your glam room will show you everything that will be in your glam bag, as well as other products that are put in the glam bags that month. There is also a special offer on each product, so even if you did not receive something you wanted in your glam bag, you still have the option to purchase the product for significantly less than it would normally cost.

Ipsy Points

Every month you can review the items in your glam bag to receive Ipsy points. These points can later be redeemed for similar products that are in glam bags. You can redeem your Ipsy points for products like free eyeliner, free lipstick, free nail art decals, free bronzer, free makeup brushes, and more.

Special Offers

As an Ipsy subscriber, you will receive special discounts on makeup products. These makeup products are brand names, and you will receive an email letting you know what special discounts are available. You can also view these by simply going to the Ipsy website.

Some of the special offers have included:

Julie G Spring Fling Nail Polish set for $10 (originally $16)

Milani Cosmetics Lids to Lips Kit for $20 (originally $48.92)

NYX

Urban Decay eyeliner and eyeshadow

Crown brush sets (I just purchased a complete set for $28)

So....What Do You Get?

You get a variety of products in your glam bag every month. Also, Ipsy will never send you the same product twice. For example, I was going to receive the same makeup brush twice and then received an email from the Ipsy team apologizing and letting me know what products would be in my glam bag in place of the brush. Keep reading to find out the products I received in my glam bag!

What If I Hate It?

While I enjoy my Glam Bags, not everyone does. Some people wind up with a plethora of makeup samples they do not want and will never use. With Ipsy, you have the option to unsubscribe at any time. While your subscription automatically renews every month, this does not mean that you cannot cancel it. There is no obligation to remain an Ipsy customer for a year, etc.

Another problem that Ipsy customers have is getting a make sample or two that they will never use. While three of the four products may be wonderful, that one extra product every month can add up. Or maybe there is simply something that was offered that month that you wish you would have gotten.

In situations like this, there are online forums and facebook groups that offer the option to swap items. While I'm sure there are people out there, they claim they will mail you a product and then don't, I have yet to run into any of them.

Recently, I have begun to simply throw the products I will never use into an Ipsy makeup bag I have received, and then when it's full, I put it up for sale on a penny auction site and usually get my money back.

I have kids that love new makeup though, so they're usually happy to take anything from an Ipsy bag.

My Opinion

There are four girls in my house, and my Ipsy bags keep us supplied with makeup and fun things to try. My girls love the Ipsy bags and use them to keep notes or as a keepsake, and I love the makeup samples. I haven't had to buy eyeliner in a couple of years. I get to try new products that I never knew existed before, too.

I've found the best serum to get rid of the dark circles under my eyes, and, to be honest, it's really fun playing dress-up with the new stuff I get. If I don't like it, I pass it on to someone that will. On top of that, I use the Ipsy points and some of the stuff I get towards the end of the year for stocking stuffers for the kids.

I've been getting these for years now, I don't see myself canceling anytime soon.

Is It Right For You?

Like I've said, I enjoy Ipsy glam bags. It's like a nice little something for me every month. Being a mom, I don't always get things for myself, so it's a fun treat.

Take a minute and think about how much you enjoy makeup samples and trying new things, like new facial cleansers. If you do, you'll probably love your glam bag every month. If you cringe at the mere thought of putting a hair mask on your hair because you have never even heard of one of those things before, you might want to put some thought into it. If you're already an Ipsy customer or have been, let everyone know what you think in the comments!

View the original article to see embedded media.

This content is accurate and true to the best of the author’s knowledge and is not meant to substitute for formal and individualized advice from a qualified professional.

© 2015 Amber Lynn

Eyeliner 101: How to Apply Eyeliner for Beginners

The basics of applying eyeliner for beginners, such as: how to position your eye when applying eyeliner, different techniques, and some awesome tips!

Makeup

Basic

Eye Makeup Products

Amber Lynn

The basics of applying eyeliner for beginners, such as: how to position your eye when applying eyeliner, different techniques, and some awesome tips!

I love sharing my favorite makeup products with others.

You've either just discovered that this awesome cosmetic exists, or have finally decided to give it a shot and overcome your fear of pencils near your eyes. Either way, searching online for how to apply eyeliner can be a daunting task. Endless lists of the varieties of eyeliner and different application processes for each can seem overwhelming. It doesn't have to be though. In this article, we're going to take some baby steps and go over the absolute basics of applying eyeliner, and before you know it, you'll be a pro!

Where to Start

First, you have to choose which eyeliner you want to apply. If this is your first time applying eyeliner, it'll be easier for you to do so with a standard pencil eyeliner. These are more forgiving if you have shaky hands or if you're just starting out and mess up a little bit. With a liquid eyeliner, you move your eye, and suddenly there's a whole line across your eyelid, whereas with a pencil eyeliner, there will more than likely be just a tiny smudge.

All you need are:

This article

A mirror

A pencil eyeliner

Make-up remover

I use the make-up remover wipes because they're easy, you can use them more than once, and they are miraculously never too wet. Any make-up remover you prefer will work though.

Do not wait until you are getting ready to walk out the door or after you have already applied all your other makeup to do this. You want to make sure you have time to play with it a little bit and get the look you want. For some people, that might happen the first time you ever touch an eyeliner pencil. For others, it might take a few tries. If it takes a few tries, you're just going to wind up wiping off your other makeup in the process of wiping off the eyeliner. If you're on your way out the door, you might feel a bit rushed and that can make this a little more difficult. So, take a minute, turn up some music, and have fun with it!

Place your finger at the corner of your eye and pull outwards, making the skin taut. Another variation of this is to pull the skin outwards and upwards. Either way will work great!

How to Position Your Eye

Now that it's time to actually put on the eyeliner, take a seat in front of your mirror (with your laptop, eyeliner, and make-up remover) and look at your reflection. I've never heard of anyone looking straight in the mirror to apply eyeliner. It doesn't work out well. A very common way to apply eyeliner is to tilt your head back and look into the mirror. This way, your eyes are partially closed so that your eyelid is exposed but partially open so that you can see your eyelid.

This isn't easy for everyone to do. Another great way to start out is to close one eye, similar to when you're applying eye shadow, and keep the other eye is open so that you can see what you're doing. After you close the one eye, take the hand you won't be applying eyeliner with and pull the corner of your eye outwards, making the eyelid tighter. If the eyelid is taut, it will be easier to apply the eyeliner.

A third option is a combination of the two. You tilt your head back, looking down, and pull the skin on the outside of your eyelid tighter at the same time. Your eye will still be open, allowing you to see more, and the eyelid will be in a position that makes this pretty simple.

The second method is easier for me to apply pencil eyeliner, while the first is easier for me to apply liquid eyeliner. Try them out and see which one works best for you! (I know it sounds like a lot, but if you try out all three, it really only takes less than about two minutes.)

Applying the Eyeliner

For beginners, there are two basic ways to apply eyeliner. One way is to start by making dots along the upper lid. After you have made the dots, you simply connect them.

The second easiest way is to simply start in the middle of the upper lid and draw the line outward. After that, you start toward the inner corner of your eye and work your way to the middle in small, even strokes until you have done the upper lid.

That Bottom Line You Missed

Once you have put on the eyeliner, it's very common to look in the mirror and realize there is a fine line right above your eyelashes that is completely bare (this is especially likely if you applied it with your eye closed all of the way). That's ok.

Simply position your eye the same way you did to apply the eyeliner, and apply the eyeliner across that line. Most people find that it is easier to hold the pencil from the above to apply eyeliner the first time, then to angle it from below while finishing this little line.

Tips for Your Bottom Lid

Using black on both the top and bottom is great for a dramatic look

Using a softer color on the bottom will create a softer, more feminine look

Remember to connect your top and bottom eyeliner at the outer corner

The Bottom Lid

Now that you have mastered the top lid, it's time to do the bottom lid. Some people leave the bottom lid with no eyeliner, some prefer to only apply eyeliner on the outer half, and others do the entire bottom lid.

If you choose to apply any, firsts slightly pull your bottom lid tight with the hand you won't be using. Draw a line along the bottom lid with the same method you found easiest for the top lid.

That's It!

See, that wasn't so hard! If it was a little more challenging than you thought, keep practicing, and you'll be a pro in no time! If you can do it with a basic eyeliner pencil, simply use the same technique you used with the pencil for other varieties of eyeliner, such as liquid eyeliner.

Tips for Wearing Eyeliner

Apply your eyeliner after your eye shadow and before your mascara. If you apply eyeliner before eye shadow, the eye shadow will cover the eyeliner. You may not be able to see it well if at all depending on the color of your eye shadow. Applying mascara last will make sure that the combination of your eyeliner and mascara isn't too dark.

Always take some time to play with new looks you're creating with eyeliner to ensure you get the look you want every time.

If you have small or close-set eyes, applying eyeliner all the way around can make them appear smaller and/or closer together. Instead, try only lining half of your bottom lid.

You can help set your eyeliner by using a powder of the same color family, and simply pushing it into the eyeliner with a small, firm brush.

Don't go all the way to your tear duct. Your eyes water naturally as the day goes on, which can cause your eyeliner to smudge, smear, and clump.

Great Products to Begin With

The NYX Mechanical Eye Pencil is a great eyeliner pencil if this is your first time applying it. It goes on as smoothly as velvet, just like a liquid eyeliner, but is very easy to apply, just like a pencil eyeliner.

View the original article to see embedded media.

Revlon ColorStay Liquid Eyeliner has an easy-to-use applicator and will last for quite a while. Unlike many in eyeliners, there is no glitter added, and I have never suddenly discovered I have raccoon eyes at the end of the day. I first got some eyeliner like this in my Ipsy bag, and I instantly fell in love. This small bottle will also last you a few months, at least. This is an amazing eyeliner for the price and ease of use.

This content is accurate and true to the best of the author’s knowledge and is not meant to substitute for formal and individualized advice from a qualified professional.

© 2014 Amber Lynn

Comments

lillyrodriguez12 on March 18, 2018:

wow this is really well thought out and put together!!!!!

Tanning lotions are specially designed to help capture the UV rays you are being exposed to while in a tanning bed in order to achieve the best tan possible. There is usually quite a large variety to choose from when choosing a tanning lotion. Fortunately, many of these have descriptions on the bottle as to what exactly they can do. For a person that has never been tanning before, it may be difficult to choose a tanning lotion due to little or no knowledge about what all of these words mean, and, with thirty options in front of you, it can be a little bit overwhelming. It doesn't have to be though. With some basic knowledge of specific terms used in regards to tanning lotions, you can easily select the perfect lotion for you.

Indoor Tanning Lotions in This Article

Tingle Lotions

Tingle Lotions

These are lotions that are formulated to increase blood flow to the skin, increasing the level of melanin. This can cause the skin to redden or appear flushed for a small amount of time. Many people experience a tingling sensation when using these lotions, but this does vary from person to person. While one person may experience a high degree of this sensation, another may barely be able to feel the tingling.

Bronzer

Many tanning lotions have what is known as a bronzer in them. This is to help increase your color, and can do so almost immediately. The level of bronzer in the lotion is typically displayed on the bottle in terms of 10x or 30x. The higher the number, the more bronzer the lotion contains. With more bronzer in your lotion, you can achieve a much darker color. I actually don't really judge a lotion by the number on the front of the bottle. I ask the employee if I can open the lotion so I can look at the color. The darker colored the lotion is, the darker color it will give you. When applying any lotion, especially bronzer, make sure to spread the lotion evenly over the entire body to avoid an uneven tan and streaking. Also, avoid getting any lotion with a bronzer on your clothes if possible, as it can quickly stain some fabrics.

Cooling Lotions

These lotions include special ingredients that allow the tanner to feel a spectacular “cooling” sensation while they tan. This can be very relaxing, and can also help a tanner going for extended periods of time to avoid feeling hot or sticky after tanning.

Shimmering

Shimmering lotions provide a little bit of shimmer affect to your skin, giving your skin a glow immediately after tanning. Some of these may appear glittery, so make sure to look at the lotion and see if it appears glitter or not if that is not the look you are after.

Maximizer and Intensifiers

After achieving a base tan, many people want to continue to go tanning. They can help you to achieve a darker color than just your base tan. Maximizer lotions are designed more for people that already have a base tan, but you can start out with whatever lotion you feel comfortable with. It should be noted that a lot of these do not contain as many moisturizers as accelerator lotions.

Accelerators

These are great lotions when trying to achieve a base tan, and are at the beginner tanner level. Accelerator lotions typically contain a lot of moisturizers in them as well. This is wonderful for two reasons. First of all, tanning can dry out your skin, sometimes giving it an ashy look. If you are going tanning, I highly doubt that you want ashy skin. Second, moisturized skin tans better, so lotions with a lot of moisturizers in them will help you achieve the tan you want faster.

So Which One Do You Get?

After you are more familiar with the basic types of tanning lotion, think about what you want in a tanning lotion. Make your selection based on this. Finding the right tanning lotion is all about your personal preferance. While one person may enjoy the tingly feeling that comes with tingling lotions, another will be heaven with the cooling sensations that come with cooling lotions. Only you know what you like, so experiment a little bit and discover your dream tanning lotion. Don't forget that some tanning salons offer sample packets of lotions. These cost only a fraction of the price of a whole bottle and provide you with the opportunity to sample the lotion and decide whether it is right for you. I've found it's even better to order them online. A bottle of the Black Raspberry lotion I listed below cost me almost forty dollars at my tanning salon! I'm a bit hesitant to order lotions online, though. I like to make sure they smell good, and I want to know what color they are to determine if I will see results in a decent amount of time. (I also had no idea they sold the same lotions on Amazon or I would've just bought a sample...) That's great for you though! I already bought the lotions at my tanning salon and tried them out for you, so you can still save money! Below are some of my favorite tanning lotions for you to check out!

Ultimate Love Junkie

Designer Skin definitely put some thought into this lotion for us. It has an eyecatching bottle, and smells amazing! I can't quite put my finger on the exact smell, but I instantly think of cherries and smile when I smell like this lotion. The only downfall is that it does say it's a bronzer on the front, but there is no number to go with it. If it helps- I saw almost immediate results, so I was pretty happy with it!

Black Raspberry

This is another great lotion that isn't too expensive. It has 20x bronzer, and a sweet fruity smell to it. It's another one of those awesome lotions that I gets me compliments on "the perfume I'm wearing" after I go tanning. I do think the "Ultra Dark Black Bronzer" on the front of the bottle is a bit misleading though. It does have a bronzer, but you're not going to walk out of a tanning salon looking like you have one of those gorgeous California tans. I just wanted to clear that one up for you!

Paint it Black

This lotion is a bronzer, and will definitely help you get more color faster. I'm not a fan of the smell. While it doesn't have a BAD smell, it doesn't have a good one either. I smelled it before I bought it, and it just smells like lotion. Maybe I'm a bit girly, but I lean a little more toward the fruity, sweet lotions. You, on the other, might not care, so if you don't mind a lotion smell, and want to get a darker tan quickly, go ahead and give it a shot!

Way Cute

Way Cute comes in an adorable bottle packed with the pleasant aroma of a delicious bronzer, that also includes tan maximizers. It costs less than ten dollars on Amazon, and is definitely worth the unbeatable price. You won't see results as fast as you will with a lotion like Paint it Black, but you're guaranteed to still see them!

This content is accurate and true to the best of the author’s knowledge and is not meant to substitute for formal and individualized advice from a qualified professional.

Comments

Eva on July 23, 2020:

Rebekah Hutchens,

I'm not surprised about Amazon.

Many of the products can be brand names that are familiar, and even used in the past.

Many are made in Mexico and China and they copy the containers and the labeling and the brand name to make you think that that's what you're buying.

Why they need to add these dangerous chemicals is beyond me.

Some products are bought, then watered down and resold on Amazon.

Buyer beware!

Rebekah Hutchens on June 01, 2019:

As a certified tanning consultant for 7 1/2 years, I strongly suggest to NOT ever purchase any skin care from Amazon. I’ve seen it first hand. A client of ours bought one online because “it was cheaper”. Cheaper is not always better. Her first use was her last, because with her “bronzer” turned into a huge burn all over. Australian Gold (the product) was notified and it turned into a law suit, only to find it was purchased from amazon, & after testing the lotion they found it had been contaminated with Drain-O!! Do yourself a favor, but from an actual tanning salon. Please.

Amber Lynn (author) on June 26, 2012:

Thanks billybuc! :) I always appreciate the great comments ~smiles~

Amber Lynn (author) on June 26, 2012:

Jadeo, thanks for the great tip! I always used to turn into a lobster first, so if I ever use the real sun again, I'm DEFINITELY going to try the banana boat tanning oil :)

Bill Holland from Olympia, WA on June 26, 2012:

There is no chance of me using one of these; I just stopped by to give you some support. Good job on the hub!

Jade0215 on June 26, 2012:

I've only tried banana boat tanning oil but only out in the sun, I'd never use a tanning bed and it works really well. Always end up with a tan while using it rather than turning into a lobster after 30 minutes without it.
