Makeup Is My Soulmate

Before I get into my likes and dislikes, let me give you a little background.

I’ve been applying liquid liner to my own eyes since I was 11 years old. I fell in love with makeup at a very young age—probably too young. Still, it was instant love, and you never forget your first love right? Now, we had our ups and downs, and, like any relationship, the pairing evolved over time, and my love grew deeper.

Skip ahead to my 20s when I had reached the ultimate level of liquid liner application. Level: flawless . . . or so I thought. While my liner was always perfect, I hadn’t yet reached the challenge of applying while a child was jumping on my back. I didn’t know that was a thing.

Now in my 30s and with three children, I can apply my liner flawlessly with a felt tip and brush alike, in a moving car, on a bumpy road, and with three kids pulling my hair and screaming. If you are able to do this as well, then congratulations! You have reached makeup nirvana.

The Arrival of My (Possible) New Best Friend

When MAC Rollerwheel Liquid Liner was announced, it turned the heads of makeup mavens everywhere, myself included. I purchased it the day it hit the shelves.

If you don’t already know, this new liquid liner has an applicator like no other. It features a tiny wheel instead of the traditional felt tip or fine brush. It actually looks like a mini pizza cutting wheel but not sharp because obviously, ouch. Mac Cosmetics says, “It acts like ‘training wheels‘ for liquid lining.” (I think that is marketing genius).

When that box came in the mail, I ripped it open as if it were filled with drops from the fountain of youth. I immediately went to my makeup room, opened the package, and took off the makeup I was already wearing to excitedly start over with the new product.

Magic!

I rolled that little wheel (hence the name) over my lid and voilà! It hugged my lash line and made an even stroke with a perfectly fine wing tip. Because I’m more dramatic (The only drama you need is on your face, am I right?), I made a second line at the outer corner of my lid and connected the two ends. The perfect wing was born. Of course, I was achieving this already, but the time this tool saved me was precious. It took four minutes off of my time spent on doing a full-face makeup routine. That’s a lot of time in makeup world.

Here Come the Torn Emotions…

While I absolutely love this, I’m also feeling a little betrayed. My 20+ years of perfecting the craft and now, all of a sudden, anyone can achieve my perfection? No fair!

Oh well! Since I am the kind of woman who wants every person to feel beautiful every day, I'm happy to share my knowledge with my little grasshoppers.

Is it worth the buy?

In my honest opinion, $21 is worth the buy.
