My Review of L'Oreal True Match Liquid Foundation

I love trying new makeup products and sharing my opinion on them.

Makeup Jungle

It's a makeup jungle out there. Every woman is searching for the best foundation that holds the best promises of enhancing their natural beauty. But, when faced with the hundreds of products, what do we as women choose to use? That's where L'Oreal True Match makeup steps up to the plate and hits a home run. Whether you are looking for moderate or heavy coverage, L'Oreal has the shade for you.

Determine Skin Tone and Undertone

I have used every foundation found on the Wal-mart cosmetic aisles, and I have to give L'Oreal True Match two thumbs up. Not many products give great coverage for the Wal-mart price. L'Oreal True match makeup covers all the flaws on my face while matching my natural skin tone.

I am very white, but even the fairest skin has variations in shade and color. True Match provides 24 shades to match every skin tone. True match has been the only foundation I have discovered that has truly matched my skin tone. The way to tell if a foundation matches your skin tone is to put it on the jaw line and blend into your neck. If you notice the difference between your face and your neck, then it does not match your skin tone. The jaw line method is better for testing match ability rather than testing on the wrist as people see your face and neck together and not your face and wrist together.

Every woman has an undertone whether it is cool (pink), warm (yellow), or neutral (olive). These tones shine through or skin giving us our beautiful, natural color.

  • Cool Undertones: One way to determine if you have cool undertones is to look at your wrist in natural light. If your veins appear bluish, then you have a cool skin tone. Another way to determine is to think about when you receive compliments on what you are wearing. If you receive the most compliments when you wear pink, pastel, or jewel tones then you most likely have cook skin. You can also wear pure white clothes and look great in them. Cool tones typically have blond hair and blue eyes.
  • Neutral Undertones: It is difficult to determine if you are cool or warm by looking at your wrist as you have a mixture of everything. You can wear anything and look great in it. Your hair and eyes can be any color.
  • Warm Undertones: Warm undertones can be determined by looking at the wrist in natural light. If they veins look greenish. Most warm undertones have auburn, red, brown, black, strawberry blond hair colors and hazel, green, and brown eye colors. Natural and earth tone colors look the best on your skin tone along with gold jewellery.

However, just because you have a certain hair color and eye color does not mean that you automatically have a certain undertone. For example, I have strawberry blonde hair and hazel eyes but I have a cool undertone. Results vary from one person to the next.

Once you discover your undertone, look at your face to determine your skin tone. True Match makeup has seven skin tone shades. To determine your skin tone shade look at your jaw line below your cheek. Do not look at your cheek as this tends to be more pigmented than your jaw line.

How to Apply

Our skin is very sensitive and is exposed to lots of stresses in our environment every day. We should take extra care to keep our skin looking its best for a long healthy life. I know as a little girl learning to put on makeup that I would pull and push at my skin trying to move the foundation around. This is bad news! Pushing and pulling the skin is a recipe for disaster, or in this case, a recipe for wrinkles. We should take extra care to use light, soft touches on our face, especially around the eyes.

Take your middle finger and put it over the top of the bottle. Then dot your face at your forehead, chin, and each cheek. Smooth the foundation in with soft strokes downwards. Stroking downwards make sure the hair on your cheeks lays down flat. Under your eyes, make sure you use your ring finger (as this is the most sensitive finger) and just tap under your eyes until it is well blended.

If this is not enough coverage in the beginning, you can always go back and just add a little more areas to the places that need it. Make sure if you have oily or combination skin to set the foundation with a loose translucent powder to make sure that your skin does not shine later in the day.

Also, another great tool that is even better than using your fingers is a foundation brush. They are very gentle on the skin and do not push or pull. You can check your local Wal-mart, Walgreens, and CVS pharmacies for a foundation brush. They have a rounded tip and are about an inch in diameter.

Be True to Yourself

Makeup is a wonderful tool to play with and to let our personality show through. Don't let it be who you are. We are strong, beautiful women, and we do not need make up to be "us." We are the same on the inside no matter if our mascara is on, running, or just plain gone. Our beauty shines from the inside out. Let's celebrate our beauty by being who we are with or without makeup!

I am 70 year old woman and look good for my age, get facials and can't use very strong things on my face a tiny bit sensitive but use regular makeup. Usually Esty Lauder, latest is Perfectionist and agrees with me but seems I want a little more coverage and may stay with this one as agrees with me. But do wear a good not that drying powder which say should not from same line, and not drying. Pretty high priced for Lauder. So if at my age you think should get something a tiny bit more that shows up more would like to hear about a good makeup does not have to be so Sparkly but have such dry skin and only want a liquid makeup as the cake ones my Facialist never saw my face clogged up with whiteheads. Hope someone can advise me can always stay with Pebble in Perfectionist.
