Front-Fastening Bras: Reviews and Recommendations
Lately, I've been having my fair share of wrist pain, so I decided it was time to try front-fastening bras for myself.
Front-Fastening Bras Are Key!
No one talks about how difficult it can be to fasten your bra from the back.
It has become more and more of a battle for me to fasten your standard back closure bra, as it can be one big guessing game. Some rear closure bras are so difficult I've occasionally taken to hooking them in the front and turning them around. This guessing game has given me my fair share of wrist pain, so I decided it was time for a change.
Through some trial and error, recommendations from my girlfriends, and research, I've concluded that front-fastening bras are the way to go.
Front-Fastening Bras vs. Back-Fastening Bras
As the proud owner of some fabulous front-fastening bras, I have noticed multiple health benefits to this type of bra. My largest takeaways so far are about these front-fastening bras are:
- They are way more comfortable than your standard bra.
- They have a wideband or a crisscross band in the back that offers better support.
- The crisscross elastic bands in the back allow for an excellent custom fit.
- The band can also provide upper back support and aid in improving posture.
- These bras are great for people with arthritis in the hands and wrists or people with shoulder problems.
In addition to helping my posture, I've also noticed that these types of bras have many more pros than your average back-fastening bras.
Traditional Bras | Front-Fastening Bras |
---|---|
Fastens and unfastens behind the back | Fastens and unfastens in the front |
Guessing game of where hooks are located in the back | Can easily spots where the clasps attach to the hooks |
Offers support that can strain the back and shoulders | They have a wideband or a crisscross band in the back that offers better support |
Can appear saggy in the front | Less likely to cause sagging effect |
Seams shown in the front and back | Seamless look in the back |
3 Highly Recommended Front-Fastening Bras
After trying a few different options, these three are my tried and true favorites. Each is a little different but gives the same amazing result. You'd be satisfied with any of the bras from this list.

1. Glamorise Wonderwire Front Close Stretch Lace Bra
This is the best overall front-fastening bra on the market. You can't go wrong with this Glamorise bra. It's very comfortable and easy to get in and out of. Not to mention, it's attractive! You can put it on and go about your day without it sliding, digging into your skin, or having underwire poking into very undesirable places.

Wonderwire
It's called "wonderwire" because its cleverly constructed built-in wire can't make contact with your skin, but you still get the benefit of the support wire provides. I love how well it lifts your breasts and keeps the girls where they should be.
Straps
It has wide, comfortable, adjustable straps so you can get a custom fit. You won't have to worry about the back straps digging into your skin. They are simple to adjust and are so comfortable when you find that sweet spot.
Cups
The cups are made of stretchy lace that provides a seamless look and they maintain their shape over time. In other words, the cups don't readily stretch out and lose their ability to support your breasts. It doesn't have hook and eye closures, but rather a barrel front close, where one side slides into the other. It's a great everyday bra.
2. Wacoal Women's Front Close T-Back Bra
The best front-fastening t-back bra is here. This Wacoal bra is a great option, especially for sleeveless dresses, blouses, or deep armhole shirts. However, you may find yourself wearing this Wacoal bra every day, regardless of whether or not you need a t-back.
I don't normally wear t-backs, so I was concerned it would feel funny. I was pleased with how quickly I became accustomed to it.
Quality
If you haven't discovered the wonders of Wacoal bras yet, you're definitely missing out. While not the cheapest bras on the market, you definitely get what you pay for with this company. The quality is just outstanding, and their bras stand the test of time. Wacoal uses quality materials, elastic and fabric, so it will maintain its shape without stretching out.
Straps
I love how the straps don't fall off my shoulders and how readily it adjusted in the back for a custom fit.
Cups
The cups are very natural and give you a beautiful shape to your bustline. I recently traveled across the United States and hate feeling uncomfortable on planes, but I literally didn't even know I was wearing this comfortable bra. I'm quite pleased by how well it supports my breasts and gives me shape without the dreaded uni-boob look.
3. Playtex Front Close With Flex Back Bra
This Playtex option is the best one for large-breasted women. If you can believe it, this Playtex wire-free bra actually provides support for large-breasted women. I can even exercise in this bra; that's how supportive it is. I love how my upper back feels supported, too.
One important thing to note about this bra is that it sits fairly high, so wearing it with a low-cut blouse won't work very well.
Straps
I'm telling you, this bra is not only flattering but is so comfortable due to its wide padded straps. The straps also stay in place for once because they are designed to be no-slip. I'd also like to note that some shirts like scoop necks won't properly cover the straps since the straps are wide.
Cups
The full cups provide full coverage and the ultimate support. There is no constant adjusting, tugging, and pulling to get the bra back where it should be. The adjustable crisscross back makes for a perfect fit. It has large, easy to close hooks and eyes.
