The Best Makeup for the Beach or Lake
Sarah is a makeup obsessed 30-year-old in Little Rock, Arkansas. I love trying new makeup and watching tutorials on new looks.
Why Wear Makeup to the Lake?
Yes, I know, it may sound crazy. Between the water and sweat, why would you want to waste time putting makeup on that's just going to melt off anyway? Well, you wouldn't want to. That's why I have put together a list of my favorite makeup products that are good for the pool, beach, lake, etc.. This look is not meant to be dramatic—it's just a makeup look that covers your imperfections and gives you that sun kissed look. So if you're wanting to try the "No Makeup" makeup look, here is a list of your must have products!
1. Moisturizer With SPF 30
The first step to a beautiful face is to keep it healthy. If you are not wearing sunscreen on your face everyday, you must start now! It keeps your skin youthful by protecting your from harmful UV rays. UV rays can cause fine lines, wrinkles, sun spots and even skin cancer. This is because UV rays do extensive damage to your collagen fibers, causing collagen to deplete and elastin to weaken. The result is skin that your skin will become prematurely aged. You should be wearing sunscreen every single day but especially when spending time outdoors like at the beach or lake. So my number one product on my list is Olay Total Effects 7-in-1 Moisturizer with SPF 30.
2. Waterproof Concealer
Waterproof makeup is becoming increasingly popular. Women are loving having makeup that stays put. Having waterproof concealer will finally allow you to spend the day outside and you won't have to worry about it sweating off. When I am doing a makeup look for the beach or lake, I don't want to look or feel like I'm wearing a lot of makeup. I want to look as natural as possible but still look and feel amazing. So for this look, I am not using a foundation. I just use the waterproof concealer on my dark circles under my eyes and my acne spots and blend well. There's no reason to cover up "good skin" with makeup. Just conceal what you need to and leave the rest alone. Just make sure you get a color that matches your skin well. My pick for the best waterproof concealer is Maybelline Makeup Instant Age Concealer.

3. Illuminating Primer
When I am going to the lake, I love having a nice glow to my face. An illuminating primer will not only keep your makeup on longer but it also helps give you that look like you're glowing from within. You can use this product alone as a highlighter or even mix it in with your foundation for an all over glowing look. I always use my illuminating primer on the tops of my checks, my cupids bow, underneath my eyebrows and sometimes even the tip of my nose. My pick for the best illuminating primer is L'Oréal Paris True Match Liquid Glow Illuminator.
4. Bronzer
Bronzer is a must have makeup product if you are doing something outdoors. If you want your skin to have a tan complexion without actually tanning, a bronzer is a great choice. Using a bronzer brush, start on your cheeks, where you would normally put your blush and work up and around the edges of your hairline. After doing that, I put just a tiny amount on my brush and apply it all over my face. I also use this as my eye shadow. Because you don't want to look like you're wearing tons of makeup, using the bronzer to color your lids will give you a natural shade, giving your face dimension. My pick for a great bronzer for your summer look is Whatup Beaches Matte Bronzer by Elizabeth Mott.
5. Highlighter
After I'm done bronzing, I want to really highlight my face. With my highlighter brush I highlight my cheeks, cupids bow, forehead and nose. Because we aren't using blush for this outside look, the highlighter still gives your face a nice dimension and makes your skin really glow. After putting it on my face, I even add some to my collarbone and tops of my shoulders. The highlighter pallet that I have been using recently is Wet n Wild Megaglo Highlighting Palette.

6. Waterproof Mascara
When it comes to being in the water, mascara is usually the first part of your makeup to go. It may not come completely off but it starts running and you get dark circles under your eyes. Waterproof mascara is a necessity if you are going to the beach or lake. Let me say it again, it is a necessity! You'll thank me later. Normally when I wear mascara I go for the blackest black that they have. Since I'm trying to look more natural for this look, I choose to use a brown color that is closer to my natural lashes.
7. Lip Color With SPF
For some reason, people always forget the lips when it comes to protecting it from the sun. Your lips need protection just as much as your face does. There's no need to wear a dark, heavy lipstick with this natural look. So try a slightly tinted chap stick that protects your lips and gives them plenty of moisture. My pic for a chap stick to give my lips a tiny bit of color and keep them protected is Maybelline Baby Lips Color SPF 16.
